Stalking Buddy's Death- Advice

Firstly sorry for the loss
Please folks learn from this and make preparations
Section 7 - The Home Office have issued a directive to police forces instructing NOT to issue
Only the certificate holder knows how to access the cabinet (or other authorised persons)
The police are only protecting the public
A section 7 if issued does not permit collection only the condition of continued safe storage - therefore...
A RFD is required to collect and transport the restricted items
Please folks have a Will with a letter of Wishes and secondary legal control of you keys

Happy to assist further if required

Kim, thanks for this. So I am going to have to get an RFD to pick up the weapons? They will not allow me to (safely) hold and dispose of the items? I have the space in approved gun safes to do so.

The home office directive is for FLDs to not use S7 to extend where FACs are over their renewal date was it not! That’s the version I saw was only to not use them to cover where renewals are over running!!

I would ring your FLD and just talk to them! They are human and have compassion and will be the best to advise! Our FLD were fantastic when someone died, granted a S7 for his widow while they varied one of the group’s FAC to move them onto it.

A S7 is a permit to possess. That includes safe storage, handling, and transport.
An RFD only needs to collect and transport restricted items not on the permit to possess.

In any case, the holder must comply with the conditions on the permit, and that can include shooting the firearms, but that is usually only in the case if it's being issued because the FLD hasn't issued the renewed cert in time.

if you have a SGC you can collect and add the section 2 shotguns to your own certificate and then sell them for his wife.

For the rifles, likely you will need the help of an RFD, hopefully they will be sympathetic to the situation, which is one good reason to support your local RFD for times of need.

my condolences to you and his family.

Things may have changed, or different police forces may do things differently, but based on my experiences of some years ago a RFD would not be required.

There are 39 police authorities we deal with 46 including border force, mod, etc. and not one follows the same interpretations - contact your feo for guidance

Correct; The two line directive was issued, a percentage of the force only read line one

Correct; Contact your FLD, commonly, once authority is given by the executor a variation to transfer only will be issued to a person with the correct certificate

Some wise words here in bold.
The last thing your family need to be doing when you depart this mortal coil is dealing with your guns and kit. Get everything listed with a value and how you want it disposed of and discuss this with your loved ones in good time.
