Stiff bolt on factory ammo

I had a new R8 30-06 barrel, and it wouldn't chamber SAAMI length ammunition, same for a friend.

It seems that occasionally, Blaser barrels come up a little short.

I don't know if this could be the issue, couldn't even close the bolt on mine.

If it was a tight chamber it would have an issue loading as well as unloading. If it’s showing no pressure signs I would think it’s ok.

In my case the Fox factory rounds chambered normally, it was only on extraction they were sticky.

I must chamber a round as tbh I always slam the bolt shut to prevent the dreaded blaser click lol
I have never slammed the bolt on either of my Blasers. I just use a steady push, and especially with the current R8, feel for the second clunk as it goes over the cam.
Take them back to the supplier and ask to swap for a different batch number and try them1 or get your money back.
I immediately contacted Ed at Edinburgh rifles regarding the notchy extraction of the Fox factory, and he told me it was a known issue with the PPU brass...and all the evidence /symptoms I had indicated that was correct.

Was yours a tight chamber? Or duff ammunition? I was more referring to the point a tight chamber will usually see problems chambering the round.
No neither. I was agreeing with your point. In my case the Fox Factory rounds chambered fine.

Look at the description in my previous post...

Top end case dimensions and soft state of the brass, causing it to not spring back from the chamber walls I think is the most likely cause of my notchy bolt symptoms, possibly exacerbated, but not caused by, a rough chamber surface.

Mine wasn't caused by a tight or dirty chamber, all the other rounds, factory and home loads chambered and extracted fine at the same range session, but only the Fox factory with PPU brass were notchy to extract after firing.

I did give the chamber a polish with a bronze brush on a drill just in case, but it made no difference to the notchy extraction with the Fox Factory. I did try that because a few years before I had noticed a bloom of rust in the chamber which could have caused excess friction for extraction...the case would have expanded and the rust bloom would have been imprinted on the surface of the case, and would have reduced the clearance produced by springback.

My Mauser M12 bolt was jamming, polished the brass on the bullets and that sorted the problem for me, whatever the coating was on this batch of bullets was the issue.

I forgot to add that my chum tried a few of the Fox Factory through his Varberg and they also chambered fine but were stiff bolt to extract...though not as dramatically as they were in my Blaser...and he was looking for the problem after my experience.

Thankyou all for taking the time to reply some great varying info and ideas.Chamber will be cleaned with said brush.Think it is possibly a pressure issue rather than that though as other brass is fine and also I use a mixture of lapua and Norma brass in my reloads and they have t been an issue l.Possible note to one’s self don’t need so lazy and make some more homeloads lol
