Stop buying Swazi gear

Ordered a new set of Swazi Overtrousers direct from NZ. Price looked good, 20% off too as they had a sale, arrived quickly in the post but it turns out the deal was too good to be true!

The material feels to be of lesser quality, and the design has also changed.

Whilst I was aware that Swazi had started to make their fleeces in Thailand I was not aware that a simillar switch had been made with their more expensive items of clothing, now seemingly being sewn in Vietnam?

I hope no one in NZ has lost their job over this change.

But Swazi Dave, you have lost a customer.

I will be looking for a lighter stalking suit (jacket and trousers) and Swazi was a consideration but now don’t think they are as heard a couple of complaints about them recently.

Trouble is the price of decent outdoor gear and availability, is it worth a punt on gear what might be dodgy

check out John Norris of Penrith they have a different sale on nearly every week (as i now know after signing upon for e mail’s)
they have decent kit sometimes at reduced prices, just recently got a harkila coat at half price it’s worth keeping an eye on their weekly sale on outside gear

It’s not to do with them being manufactured elsewhere though - it’s the fact the quality is compromised…

Other than schoffel coats,which i still use, all my other shooting stuff is walking/climbing gear.Usually better quality and better designed than a lot of tat aimed at the shooting market.Still mostly made in SE Asia though.

I wear swazi and love it and rate quality tbh. Most shooting gear is far too small I have also gone walking gear more true to size.Ive since discovered Swazis good fit and have bought more of it I don't think it matters where it's made.They as a company make no bones as to where some gear is made if you look on there site either.

I use more Swazi gear than an other brand. Its all made in Asia, but I have been happy and will keep buying it as long as the quality holds up.

Its just about impossible to find hunting clothing that isnt made in Asia today.

Same people say the same about swanndri but I cannot tell the difference between two of their models new and old side by side other than how any manufacturing may change over time to some degree. Yeah, it’s lovely to see the name of the lady who stitched it together, and it’s sad that someone in NZ has no doubt had to find work elsewhere as the cheaper labour of the foreign workforce comes into play, but unless you want to get the sewing machine out, there are very few truly authentic producers now. It’s a global economy. I’m so woke these days. It scares me.

Swazi moved some production several years ago, problem is the quality is to good, it last too long,so sales can be slow. Stoney creek are having a lot of problems since moving production to India, it’s a race to the bottom to keep prices down.

A gamekeeper friend of mine had a new pair of the same boots every year and bought them from the same place. But when he went to get a new pair a few years ago the owner of the shop told him he was not stocking that brand of boots because the company had moved production from Italy to China and the quality was crap so he was not going to be stocking them. Not always a good move making them cheapest as they say on bargain hunt quality always sells.

Yep. Just bought a Selle Royal bike saddle. These were a classic Italian brand. And on this one, underneath, not Made in Italy but Made in China.

I’ve seen the same comments for Leica products manufactured in Portugal, and am guilty of such comments myself, but when invited to justify such an assertion I couldn’t so must conclude I'm guilty, at best, of unconscious bias.

Just cut out the problem label if it’s causing distress.

I guess that’s a good point - @caberslash really needs to wear them - the stitching may in fact be better quality!

Just buy Arcteryx-doesnt let you down and quality is top notch

The only thing to moan about may be the price but it works, it lasts, comes in a variety of colours to suit terrain and you won’t be judged in the “shooting fashion parade” that you see when folk get together

I’m not against people making a living but some things have just gone daft - just had a brief look at ArcteryX. Moan about the price, strewth, web site should carry a health warning
