Suspended Gralloch... WHY?!

And you care about this because...?

this thread is just going round in circles, nobody is reading previous posts and are just making the same comments that appear on the previous pages. Is this an infinite thread ?

in reality, its at the same level as the initial troll of the op, why should anyone care if other people do a suspended gralloch or not

Given Einsteins theories and the proof that a gravitation force does not exist as postulated by Newton, then it follows that a carcass on a tree branch is not in fact suspended at all, it is merely travelling though space slightly above the surface of the planet earth

When it is released it does not fall due to a force, the two bodies collide as they travel through space due to the earth's mass distorting the space-time continuum

I spent two days showing newbie stalkers how to get a decent hygienic gralloch undertaken in all disciplines on the floor, a cradle and suspended

at the end of it, it come out as expected and what I asked them to do, to find the best one for you and the environment your in to produce a safe as possible gralloch procedure

they all went away with fresh ideas on what they could do themselves to get a decent job done, and the confidence to do the job required, it’s all about confidence in what you do, practice is the key to doing a good job no preferences

A thread that might get me suspended 😅

I have yet to hear a convincing argument for doing a suspended gralloch on deer (so don't bring up boar please).

I've gralloched deer from under 10kg to over 100kg and never felt the need to carry a block and tackle along with gandrel gambrel (thanks @takbok ) around... maybe some like having play with a portable dungeon?! :stir:

As far as I can tell, gralloching on the ground is quick, clean and efficient. No tree or vehicle required!
Wait until you get in to your seventies. You will definitely change your mind !

For:

1) The vast majority of animals are eviserated by a suspended system - it's what abbatoirs use.

2) It gets the animal out of the debris, and gravity is on your side and does the hard work of removing the bits and pieces.

3) you can drop the gut pile into a container for further disposal / processing.

Against

1) you need a method of suspension, ie a good stout tree, barn, or the forks of a telehandler, or cran attached to vehicle etc. Not often available

2) For anything bigger than a Roe, you probably need some form of block and tackle / winch / hoist to lift it up

3) The gut contents are usually pressing hard against the skin - easily punctured, whereas when the beast is on the deck, easier to open it up.

And techniques vary hugely and pretty much depends on who taught you. In the US and the continent they often hang an animal by the jaw bone or antlers, whereas in the UK we tend to hang from back legs through the Achilles tendons.

There are plenty of different techniques. The only key thing is that avoid contaminating the carcass and make it nice and clean.
