Swarovski eye pieces

I've always been a Schmidt man so far but as by my last post just bought a swarovski scope for the .375, can someone tell me, do all their scopes have a spring loaded eye piece? And is it's sole purpose to minimise injury on the off chance you get kissed by it? I can't see any other reason for it......there is about an inch of sprung travel on it, which I noticed when I put the bikini style cover back on.
If that is what it is for, I like it, good thinking! If not, what is it for?

my 6-24x50 pvi2 highgrid doesnt have the spring loaded eyepiece, but a 30yr old 6x42 i have does.
