Taking firearms to USA

Hello All

We are going on a bear hunt to Idaho in spring and need some help regarding temporary import of firearms/shotguns to the US

Has anyone done it recently and can help?

I think it's just a case of form 6NIA and speaking with the airline

anything I need to do for the UK?

And is it easy enough to buy ammunition there?

Cheers

You need to apply now, it can take a while to process.
That's the easy part, getting through Heathrow will be the hard part, if it were me I would borrow a rifle when I get there.
Good luck on your hunt

Hi

As said - easie rand less risk from the travel/process to borrow a rifle whilst out there.

Curious where abouts in Idaho as I stayed at Coer d'Alene (very nice) then onto Avery?

Doing a DIY hunt so not possible to borrow anything.

Traveling to Boise then hiking into Unit 39 Somewhere to spend a couple weeks glassing and camping along with the hunting (still planning this bit)

Why not?
Join a forum in the US, explain who/what/when and I guarantee you will be offered lots of help including the loan of a rifle.
Under which authority would you possess the rifle as non-immigrant alien? As a default I think you don't have any authority to do so.

He has a hunting licence so he can borrow a firearm

May rent firearms to hunt or to use at a shooting range. ie at the Las Vegas shooting ranges full auto BS etc so hunting is mentioned as a get out clause.
I have personally watched the non resident law on buying firearms being deliberately flouted by a California FFL dealer at a Reno gun show. It seems the Federal background checks are to be ignored by many traders at gun shows or in the for sale classifieds in newspapers.

I did this a few years ago, like many have said you will need the correct paperwork from the ATF, and I'm afraid to say they were not the best to deal with, bearing in mind the there is one office that deals with foreign firearms permits, this same office were not permitted to phone, fax or email out of the USA 🙄🙄🙄....hopefully things have changed..🤞🏼but don't be afraid to chase up your application if you hear nothing back from them. Ammunition can be a pain to fly with, I would never bother again and just buy over there.
Good luck with your hunt.
