Taking the Mrs out ...

Hi Team - looking for a bit of advice here please.

My Mrs tolerates my stalking at best. The idea of heading out to the middle of nowhere at sparrows fart to shoot a deer is completely anathema to her. However .... She is now curious as to what I like about it and has asked if she can come along one day.

The challenge is that she likes the finer things in life and, whilst pretty athletic, she isn't a fan of the cold. So I don't think that either a summer Muntie from a high seat or a winter fallow in the woods is going to cut it in terms of helping her understand how great our sport can be.

My conclusion is that it's worth investing in a long weekend break together in the highlands. Stay in a great hotel - not too tweedy and with all mod cons, spa, etc and get her out on the hill for an August stag on a great estate with a brilliant and engaging ghillie with the aim being that she shoots a trophy that will show-up anything I have managed to put on the wall to date (she's also quite competitive!)

Can anyone recommend such a place? Does anyone have any experiences of introducing their other halves to the sport in this way? Any pitfalls I should look out for?

Thanks!

Thats is a great idea just make sure where ever you choose to stop are happy with firearms

failing that if your mrs doesn't fancy going im always free hehe :)

i hope my mrs doesn't see this or she'll expect the same

Will that do? Lots of good stalking around and about :D

My mrs was pestering me to take her stalking. Last month spent a day stalking with Colin solway stalker on here.
She got a Costa Coffee on the way up and a bag of chips on the way back home. Needless to say she doesn't want to come stalking again.

There are one or two down side to all of this that I can see.:stir:
What about if your wife decides that she likes stalking and tells you that she is going to start stalking with you every time you go? Have you thought about that? She will of course want a new rifle and all of the latest "fashionable stalking accessories" - Hat, coat, breeks, footwear, midge repellent/make-up etc; that lot alone will cost you a further fortune, and if she's anything like most women that I have met it will take her hours to get ready.
And then of course you have the problem that she may actually turn out to be a better shot than you!:stir: She could well end up winding you up about that and then join The Stalking Directory to wind up even further with many of the SD Members winding you up and constantly ribbing you about it as well.

On a serious note - I really do hope that your wife enjoys and appreciates her "break" (And I'm sure that she will) wherever you take her - I'm sure that many wives have a lot to put up with from husbands who are members of the shooting fraternity. Sometimes some of us do take our wives for granted far too much and far too often - We need toremember that we are only ever going to get out of a marraige what we are prepared to put into it!
