The Creedmore isn't perfect!

Couldn't resist the title, actually a lot of sense in the article.
Not sure why anyone ever thought they were perfect.

Also not sure why people get so hung up on criticising them.

Entirely functional middle of the range cartridge.

I would say part of it is trends, much the same in the game shooting world where the birds are getting lighter to fly faster and higher
Shooters coming down in gauge size .410 > 28b (next it will be a No3 garden gun  )

Classic would be a game shooter looking at his new smart watch while on a bung hole drive with his .410

I’ve seen a lot of animal shot with this cartridge, and this is where I eat a smidge of humble pie because most of what I have seen that have been absolutely horrendous bullet damage and is down to the chosen projectile!

Just recently, I’ve had the tribe of women turn up for their first cull day, and just proves a point that you use a 140gn bullet is gonna do a lovely tidy job!

Once again, most problems with the 6.5 creedmoor is bullet choice, everybody favours the go light go fast and have problems you go slow and steady with a nice big bullet damage is negligible and they fall over.

Am I a convert?

Am I hell, it is still in my opinion a pointless cartridge but it is here to stay.

Poor blood trails are the fault of light bullets gong too fast.

Arguably every cartridge after .270 or .308 is pointless.

All of them have strengths and weaknesses. All of them can be a disaster with the wrong bullet, poor shot placement or bad user decisions.

Bizarre that people fixate on one cartridge quite so much.

I love my 6.5 CM it does everything I need it to, will drop a Roe a twenty meters but also a Sika stag at 250m, it does everything my 243 did just with a slightly better choice of bullets for the bigger deer.
Meat damage isnt bad using SP rounds, I find 129g hornady whitetail to be accurate, cost effective and work well.

Where is the fault of the .270.....in the people who are scared of them and morph to a CM 😱

I think that’s purely down to ammunition availability, the ammunition manufacturers dictate to what is readily available and what is not therefore you buy the rifle that you can get ammo for that’s what they push.

Luckily, for me, I don’t have to get swallowed into that ball ache, I roll my own shoot 7 x 57, factory ammunition is non-existent so I’m free as a bird to do as a wish.

Don’t get me wrong - .270 is great.

But if you shoot a 130gr ballistic tip into a roe deer at 40 metres, you’re going to create quite a mess.

Lee’s dislike of the Creedmoor comes from the damage it can create. .270 is notoriously damaging if you use the wrong bullet at the wrong range on the wrong quarry!

I do occasionally think about getting a classic wood stocked rifle in 7x57 for high days and holidays.

It’s a cartridge I’ve always wanted, and I’m bloody glad I got one, and now the only 1!

It does everything you need to do with minimal fuss, minimal bang as long as you know what your bullets doing a longshot is not unachievable by any standard. It’s just a steady way no bull**** bang things are gonna fall over.

I’m using 150gn lead and 150gn copper

Don't buy in to that tbh
Small deer at 40 yds neck shot no body damage

Big deer at 190 yds same 150gn lead head out of the .270 :tiphat: busted shoulder dead as a nit

I’ve short a lot and I mean a lot of stuff with the 270, again that just comes down to choice of projectile and the speed you push it at!

130gn Barnes ttsx or 130gn S game king at 2900👌
