The good old days !

Why do folk watch these things? It seems masochistic in the least. The television equivalent of having red hot needles stuck under your finger nails? I used to watch it in John Craven's time when it was "Farming Today" for the week ahead weather forecast. I haven't watched it since.

Are you thinking of countryfile?

An other awful person, one of my customers knew him well. Customers wife never trusted him
My customer was asked to be a trustee of the land charity, pages tactics were to bully the trustees and ignore the money issues. He could write a story but not a person to be trusted

Oh, spoiled that for me! I mean politically him & me were moons apart too, but I always liked what I read him written on countryside etc

Unfortunately this type of person (With the gift of the gob) rarely are trustworthy in my experience.

Is that the same Robin Page who hosted "One Man & His Dog" with Phil Drabble 🤔.. or am I going senile and getting confused 😕..
Funny how you get it wrong about folks you only see on the television 🤕

Phil Drabble I did like, he was a prolific author about his small parcel of forestry commission land he purchased.. turned it into a bit of a wildlife haven.

Yep me too, i thought he seemed ok from his writing but it hid alot
I once rented a cottage on a farm belonging to the (at that time) director of a well-known game conservation charity. He had also written a section of a particular rough shooting book I considered my bible at the time, regarding how landowners appreciated an extra hand now and again. He merrily scribbled on about offering landowners help at lambing. Or hay making. Or beating. Or just generally being amenable and open to helping wherever an extra pair of hands would be useful. I took his written advice to heart, and duly offered to help out on the farm.

He took the help fast enough. But when it came down to it, he was a jealous, insular, arrogant snob with a penchant for sarcastic putdowns, snide insults, and a completely entitled attitude. I didn't help for long, even though I rented that cottage for 16 years.

It just goes to show that the personality someone demonstrates through their writing can be very misleading.
