I mentioned a client who was in my opinion terrible.
I enjoy stalking with my family.
My ideal clients are the ones that keep returning year in year out.
Makes me feel valued and appreciated and in return I try hard to manage their expectations.
I always refuse tips as I have already taken good money for a service provided.
Never say no to a bottle of scotch though

Fairly sure if I'd been left to my own devices there'd have been a different outcome. There wouldn't have been plumes of watermelon vape, for a start I lost count of the number of fallow that winded us

If they can smell the vape they can smell you....

Don’t eat yellow snow.
Only shoot deer uphill of the truck.
Carry whole tomatoes separately to the sandwich and only slice them and add them when you’re ready to eat - stops the bread getting soggy.

With my first stalking trip arranged to take place just four days after my 16[SUP]th[/SUP] birthday, I had a bit of preparation to do: First, I had to zero my new ‘scope, which was a birthday present from SD member 'Kalahari'. Then I had a change of plan, and decided that I wanted to shoot without the moderator, so I then had to re-zero it again without the mod. By this time I was thinking that I wouldn’t have any ammunition left to go stalking! Next I had to remove the bipod, as I’d be shooting from a highseat. As I’d never shot from a highseat before dad thought I ought to get some practice...

She's now a stalking guide herself, with her own cull tally well into 4 figures. I hope she remembers that first deer.

Thats my question. What's a good baseline tip? Obviously if you shoot something amazing or the guide goes well and truly out of their way, you'd tip more. But what is a good amount to not be considered cheap?

I have a good Mate who runs a very big and expesive sporting estate . As most know the 3 shots on the target is pretty much mandatory for all no matter what they say to the boss. Its fairly common that the guest asks the gilly to shoot the deer when they get into position on a beast and say nothing to anyone about it back at base.

Presumably the guide was checking wind direction?

If someone is puffing a vape downwind of deer, then it is the movement of the 'smoke' cloud that they will notice first, not the scent.
