The out yesterday or today thread and...

I had a lovely day today zeroing the Zulus V1 on the .22lr - being a Stutzen I was actually loathe to get it dirty…
The bonus was a quick check of the V2 zero on the sainted triple deuce - spot on at 100 and the lrf/bc gizmo gave me a perfect hit on my 3 inch gong at 205.
Tonite Mathew I am shooting foxes…

Whilst I am obviously very conscious of causing upset ... it appears the lines on acceptable content are becoming blurred .... so

I've been deer stalking for the last 12 or so years and have been fortunate enough to do a fair bit more in the last 18 or so months. As I am "special" I wanted to get the remaining deer species ticked off the list but a red had alluded me for the last few trips. A friend organised a trip for me in North Devon (no names will be mentioned as its a secret) and I finally managed my first red. 70 yard chest/shoulder shot, 6.5 Creed, S&B Blue, dropped on the spot. He's only a little lad so reckon he was in the 100-120 kg mark which made extraction nice and simple.

Apologies If I'm not allowed to post this but unless @Nickb gets shouted at first then tough  😛

Im happy with the 6 ...dont need to carried away. Bumpy22 took me out but I cant do a write up as what goes on in Somerset stays in Somerset ...and I spent the 3 1/2 hours on the way back crying due to abuse (fortunately not physical)

Out with the hmr this morning with the pard on top.

I shoot two squirrels at around 100 yds off the tripod with a quartering wind . A good breezy wind. Look at their tails.

Nice Smelly.

Out myself later. A dog turned up to my vixen.

Another dull grey misty day today so I ventured out with the shotgun and thermal in search of squirrels.
I hunted the woods with the thermal as very difficult to spot them with the naked eye . Thermal came in to its own today using red palette picking up squirrels in the tree canopy and grey woods that I never would have seen otherwise.
Had a great session with a bonus crow and pheasant too 😁

What a perfect day

Went to check for deer sign today. Not much sign at all but did find three. Couldn't make out antlers but one may of had two knobs.
One was very switched on and soon had my shape on radar!
I managed to back away without disturbing them.

That reminds me. Yesterday I found my four roe. The two young bucks are doing very well.
Finally looks like these will survive.

Had a chat with the smallholding lady about if her dogs are barking at night! She said they've just started again!! I said I'll pop over at night then!!!
She said thank you very very much, she has just had some running ducks for the children etc etc.
Anyway, I missed a pheasants neck and a rabbit but found another and took a nice 40yd off hand shot for it's noggin.
Boy, if I'd of took my 22 I reckon I could of filled a sack with squirrels, bet they aren't there tomorrow....🙄IMG_20251223_150753~2.jpg

Mrs said she wanted a couple of birds so I had to do as I was told and besides the flintlock hadn't been out in while...
I also chose to cut a path through some thick timber as it usually hold birds and sure enough there was a bird in it.
Nothing clever, just potted it.
The next bird though was special!
I pushed some birds off the fields into some thick cover they know they are safe in but I fancied stalking them in there and that's what I did except they kept leaping up and flying off.
I decided that if another lifts I'm going to try a wing shot with the flintlock!
Well one lifted to my left and flew back complaining very loudly all the while.
I swung through simultaneously pulling the trigger, I saw the flash in the pan then a boom and a bird reappearing from the smoke looking very dead! Of course he just had to fall in a huge dog rose didn't he!!
Anyway, really chuffed.
