The Stalker - BBC 1 Scotland

Watched this this evening and very pleasantly surprised. It was just a really well balanced programme about a deer stalker and his hopes that his son takes over and becomes 5th generation. None of usual anti etc, just this is what we are doing for the best of the herd. Probably find it on the iPlayer.

Yep I also enjoyed it. Very beautiful part of the world. Wasn’t as I was expecting no doubt the anti brigade will be trashing the bbc tomorrow though.

Very good programme about time something hunting/ shooting related was portrayed in a good light. Well done all involved.

Must admit it slightly feels as if the message is getting through. It’s part of life in the country side and there a growing number who understand and empathise with it. And it’s not all about the anti’s

Yes, I have just watched this and was surprised at how well informed, reasonable and factual it was. Not at all what I expected from the usual BBC bunny hugging and Disney mentality productions. I wonder if Chris Packham was on leave when it was made and edited?

I'm struggling to see how the antis can be critical of it although the sceptic in me says that there will be plenty who try to rip it to sheds. I enjoyed it though as I'm sure that everyone on here would.

yep really enjoyed it, well made film with lovely scenery and fair representation,
as I said on the other thread, I looked at the twitter chat about the programme (search #thedeerstalker), a number of people (not necessarily anti as such) expressing disgust in no uncertain terms, accompanied by some liberal use of the "c" word! in part due to the time it was on, just whilst they were having tea waiting for country file!!
if anyone is of a mind to write and compliment the beeb (and it definitely goes through to the powers that be, they are very hot on that), heres a link

Packman was probably in his house in France with Oddie, the most unfunny comedian who has ever lived, apart from Ben Elton of course.

I also enjoyed it the only bit that made me cringe was when his son was shooting and took the safety off with his finger on the trigger.

Really enjoyed it and made me think I must go back to Scotland and get one more from the hill before I am too old and decrepit to do it.

I had a feeling the son was not too bothered about being a stalker, could be wrong though, he just did not seem to have much enthusiasm for it.

Looks as though all tge hardwork lobbying by our various associations is paying off and BBC are beginning to take notice!!
