Theft

I recently read in SD about some poor soul lost his hilux. This prompted me to get a steering lock for my 22 plate hilux as I thought this would be a deterrent, Unfortunately it did not. I also keep the fobs in a lead box. Sunday evening at 22.50 we were in bed asleep with the window closed for the first time in a week, a white 4 door pickup ( seen on my next door neighbours cctv) arrived on the road outside mine. My vehicle was gone in about 4 minutes without us hearing the angle grinder at work. A neighbour heard the noise and quickly got dressed to run over and rang my doorbell. The Police were informed straight away but so far no luck finding the hilux. What ever happens my vehicle will be fitted with a tracker in the future. I totted up today the tools and equipment I had in the vehicle and it came to over £3,000.00 to replace for which I am not insured, another lesson learnt the hard way.

Take every precaution you can to protect your vehicle and contents.

Sorry to hear your story, I was the poor soul who lost his Hilux not too long ago. Not only have you lost your tools but now you have to deal with all the crap about reporting your vehicle stolen, insurance etc. My Hilux turned up some weeks later, it's still with the police and forensics, I cannot say too much about the situation as it's a very active investigation. I was several hours away from placing my order for a new vehicle when I got notice that my vehicle had been found. Even with good insurance it's all time consuming and you are left without a vehicle.

It seems that steering locks are no deterrent to thieves today with easy access to battery grinders. I still like the idea of a pedal lock box.

Good luck in dealing with your stolen Hilux situation.

This is organised crime, they are stuck in containers and shipped to Eastern Europe, Africa or the Middle East. I did hear of one recovered but that is extremely unusual. Take your wheels in the house with you.

Ghost Immobiliser, Blank the OBD Port and fit a pedal box.

If you can afford it the most convenient is a set of gates or electric bollards on your drive!

My car (kia ) sits under cctv and faces a ring door bell ,it's alarmed/ immobiliser fitted plus steering bar.
Unfortunately the thieves seem to be able to counter all this .
That plus a dog can do no more but cross your fingers and hope.
Sorry about your loss but it's rife and youl probably see your tools at a carboot.

Any self-respecting burglar would leave your car well alone with the dog you've got. Out-and-out killer. No messing with that one!

Afraid of nothing, stood to an Irish wolfhound the other day ,unfortunately her Napoleon complex is not backed up l.
At 7" tall she's not fooling anyone 🤣

I bought a pedal lock for my Hilux, probably best £100 you can spend, Toyota also fitted a free tracker, not sure how good it is though! Most thieves know how to overcome the security so if they want it they will get it

Unfortunately powered gates and electric bollards are both very unreliable . Look at the maintenance contract prices let alone the cost of purchase for such things .

SafeTag Plug 4G GPS Tracker OBD2 is not a solution but might come in handy. Not a fail proof option though.

Unfortunately we have turned into a country where one cannot own anything nice unless you have armed guards around the clock to protect it, only affordable by a few.

We've had the same sets of gates for 20 years with minimal problems.

Anything mechanical has to be maintained.

I use Monimoto for bikes. Superb tracker

I’ve just spoken to Toyota today actually about getting my app working correctly as you can locate the truck with that as well

I’ll be buying a pedal box soon as well as I’m often away in the caravan
