Thermal scope sales.

Have any members had a thermal or NV scope for sale and been approached by non-shooting buyers ?
I've been messaged by three separate "buyers" , none of whom are willing to provide proof of identity or proof of address, they all have profiles in names not anything like their real names. None want to do bank transfer, and before anyone suggests it, trust has to be on both sides and I've never had an issue with a genuine shooting person but I don't understand why a person who doesn't shoot would want to buy a weapon sight ??

Curious as to why anyone with nefarious reasons to buy a thermal wouldn't just buy a new one from a shop... no license required :-|..

I'm intrigued, do tell more...

Could be offshore purchases looking to have them shoooed out of the country without the REQUIRED export licenses. Or just scammers wanting to use non-bank transfers so they can reverse payment once good received.

Bank transfer or PayPal friends and family only for me when selling goods. It face to face either, you never know who you’ll meet and how they will act!

This is exactly what I thought. PayPal and eBay's alternative give the buyer a chance to dispute, delivery, condition, description etc etc.

My last thermal sold to a guy from Ukraine. He paid via Paypal and shipped to a London address that was clearly a PO box style address.

PAyed the asking price and all was good

And they always side with the buyer, so you get screwed even if you have shipped a good product and will never get it back! Don’t do it
I didn't let the overwhelming lure of money override my instinct, but it's easy to see why some folks get scammed.

And completely illegal as no export license for restricted goods I assume.

No offense meant in saying that.

Don’t get caught out.
If he got caught, he could drop you in it!

Id be happy with that, the "buyers" that gave been trying aren't from Ukraine....

I didn't know where is was going to be honest, I just delivered it to a UK address, no idea where it ended up......
That’s ok, then it’s not your issue, but you did say it was going to Ukraine. Just be careful what can be investigated if it was stopped by hmrc, that’s all I’m saying. Protect yourself
