Think I've been scammed . . . . . ?

I was humming and hawing over a bit of equipment I saw on FB Marketplace for a couple of weeks. Finally, I decided to go ahead and buy it on Sunday. Messaged the seller, and he asked me to order direct from their site (Direct Equipment - Your No.1 Choice for Commercial Catering Equipment) I did this, then got an email confirming the order. A few days went by, and no email confirmation of shipping as promised. Now, the website looks legit, and I can't think of any reason why anyone would go to such lengths as they'd soon be taken off FB, but I can't shake the nagging feeling I've had my pants pulled down. Finally got a response and was given a tracking number from Hermes, and it's been showing as 'processing at hub' for the last 24 hours with no update. There was also no insistence that I pay by bank transfer of friends and family (otherwise I'd have run a mile), so I paid via PayPal. I've done a bit more digging, and the guy has over a hundred FB marketplace listings. The registered company address is BS though, as is the phone number, and email address

Is it just me being daft, d'you reckon? Or would this raise alarm bells with any of you guys? I really can't shake the feeling I've been done over :-|

My experience is you end up with your consignment way before the tracking catches up, with any of those endless parcel numbers.
Yeah, I've seen that many times with Hermes. Bloody useless. I just have this really nagging feeling that's got a hold of me the last day or so . . . .

Worth getting them on livechat - a few parcels of mine mysteriously started moving again once I gently berated them on livechat

Calm yersell Mr Smoke .... it'll arrive,
I'm sure you're right. Funny how suspicion can become insidious though, isn't it? Not a thing I can do about it, either way. At least if it does prove to be the case nthat the ungodly have pulled my pants down the payment should be protected. Not a nice feeling though

I've had this on a few occasions where I have bought from a reputable buyer and the package has arrived without any movement showing on the tracking and saying it was still at their "hub"! It does tend to get a little worrying sometimes but the package has always arrived and often just left on the front door step. You just have to grit your teeth and hope for the best with Herpes.

I'm sure you'll be fine. Once that doubt sets in as a result of silence from the seller it is hard to shake off.

Fingers crossed it'll arrive in the next couple of days.

Did you check Fb Marketplace for others selling the same product at the same low price?
I saw a product for way below usual price and like you contacted the seller who said I had to order the goods directly from the website. I thought this odd as it was just some random dude on Fb and then did a check for the same product and there were half a dozen profiles with the exact same product at the cheap price.
I hope your stuff arrives okay, but like you I got that niggly feeling but didn't proceed. In fairness, your website looks pretty professional so hopefully the Fb dude hasn't just copied it etc.

i'v had it say delivered ? but not really when i'v called them only to find out its not even left the yard ! and i'v had just dropped at an address that sounded like mine but not! or nothing and found it under the car as i drove away only to see it ?

This what has me worried. There's another fella with a similar listing, but saying he's based in Glasgow. The price wasn't particularly way below what I'd be happy paying anyway, so that didn't ring any alarm bells. He gave me a 'FACEBOOK20' discount code which knocked £20 off the price which is what swung it for me. I suspect Paypal may be raising a case on my behalf in due course

Perhaps I'm wrong, bu u u u u t . . . . . . . . :-|

I wouldn’t think you had been scammed if Hermes say it is at their hub. Hermes would have to be in on the scam as well.

Inefficient they may be but they certainly wouldn’t still be in business if they colluded with scammers.

Fingers crossed.

Alan
Yeah, I know. I'm probably just being completely paranoid. Too easy to let stuff like this get under your skin sometimes, I guess

hope it is not a scam, but facebook are a joke, as per my friends recent experience i posted a little while back, which was 100% a facebook market place scam, despite using the report the seller process on facebook the seller is still
”selling” the same item, except he has blocked my friend from viewing the item.
Facebook look to have no u.k. contact phone number or an email address. Fortunately the bank did reimburse my friend.
So very much buyer beware, so much so i would never ever buy from facebook market place unless collecting in person and paying on collection. It is a scammers paradise.
