Think I've been scammed . . . . . ?

I don’t think it’s a scam from what you say - just slow delivery..,you’re covered anyway so hopefully not an issue. 👍🏻
Yeah, I hope you're right. And it was a PayPal transaction rather than a bank transfer, so I'm covered that way. It just really galls me to think some lowlife scum may have got the better of me

Well, it looks as though I've been made a fool of by some anonymous sob. Tracking number is a fake (or at least doesn't relate to anything I'm supposed to be receiving, I'm feeling pretty stupid, angry, and a tad embarrassed at being dumb enough to fall for it.

I've learned a lesson though, FB Marketplace is off-limits from now on. The worst bit is the sheer indifference and contempt these assholes show for society, and the fact there's no target to direct any anger towards makes it worse somehow

Yeah, marketplace seems to be scammer heaven, I got caught on something a couple of years ago that looked really good value ( yeah I know, if it looks to good to be true ....).
Anyway I paid by bank transfer and tried to recoup my loss through the anti fraud dept of my bank. They traced the receiving account but it was empty so there was nothing else they could do

I think facebook should be far more accountable for the market place, they have no proper process in place to report the scammers too, no phone number, no emails, no resource and hence the scammers just carry on their evil business, you can report them to the action fraud website but again they have insufficient resources to cope with the numbers, so look only to take action on the big frauds. Really is a scammers paradise, who says crime does not pay?

They could close the bank account down, eventually the scammers would run out of banks.

They make no revenue from marketplace, so there's no incentive to invest I guess. Makes it a scammers paradise., but I suppose I should really have been more careful. One thing I find unforgiveable though, is the fact their activities erode trust in strangers.

It’s a shame, but may be possible to create your own add, highlighting your experience such as listing the item you bought for sale, then in the add warn others of the scam?

I bet the scumbag is still advertising🤬

indeed but they should have a duty of care, as i trust they do for porn or child abuse etc, and I bet they must make extra money some how by having the marketplace.

Very few sites, including Forums, will accept responsibility if sales go wrong, the ads are free and part of the Forum, and there is usually a warning to be careful when buying any item, there is little a Forum can do in reality, and this is why scammers can sometimes flourish especially on the really busy sales platforms like FB and Evilbay, the best thing is to ask for a sellers address as if you are going to personally pick it up, and then ask for further pics etc.

Hear what you say, but the scam reporting to facebook marketplace is a joke even after reporting a scammer they continue to be allowed on the marketplace, this surly is just facebook not acting in the best interest of its users.
The seller and item my friend was scammed on via facebook marketplace continues to be “sold”, waiting the next victim.

Absolutely agree, what gets me though, if you look at these repeat ads for these low priced bargains(scams), and look at the sellers details, a lot have been members for years, and I am thinking defunct accounts, but how do the scammers get into these accounts, or do the scammers actually work for FB, or are some of FB's workers possibly selling these defunct accounts along with passwords to the scammers.

Well . . . . . .

After all that, it's turned up. I don't feel particularly embarrassed at wondering if I'd been scammed as both delivery time, and the seller's communication was dreadful. And don't even get me started on the dismal performance by Evri. Tracking information still hasn't updated, and that's been almost three weeks since the order was placed.

Anyhoo, in the interim I bought another as I had a job I needed to get done, so anyone after a decent mincer should have a look in the Classified section very shortly 😄

And it could have all been avoided if the seller phoned or messaged you… your behaviour and reaction was entirely rational, all created by the sellers silence and poor dreadful communication.

Glad it all worked out..😅

Thanks mate. What galls me is he asked specifically for my mobile number for the courier at the time. Bet it's been sat in the depot all this time as nobody wanted to deliver a 15kg package. I ended up spending twice as much on a better unit as he pushed me into a timeframe that left me with no other choice. Very pleased with the other unit, but if I'd known he was going to jerk me around so much I'd just have gone down that route in the first place.

Lesson learned. Facebook Marketplace? Ok for local private items I guess. But anything that needs posted? Forget it.
