This sounds absolutely tragic

Horrible, just awful. My boys are this age so it really resonates. This must be awful for his devastated family, the poor little mite was just enjoying a nice day with his grandad. I’ve got to give the briefing on our shoot next week and this is a sobering reminder of why we must be excessively cautious about safety.

My boys are a bit older (11 and 13) but both regularly come shooting with me. I’ve sat them down this morning and told them what’s happened just up the road, explaining this is why I’m always tight with them on gun safety. Absolute tragedy and can’t imagine what the family is going through.

My thoughts are with all concerned. Even though we don't know all the details it just goes to show that there is no compromise on Firearm Safety. It can be all too easy to have an accident when out shooting if you do not keep your thoughts on what you are doing. I always used to say to anyone I was mentoring "It's all too easy for an accident to happen but once that accident has happened you can not unhappen it", and this very sad and tragic tale highlights that!
Stay safe guys!

Very sad indeed. The last time I heard of something similar was when two people were in a pigeon hide and the gun fell over.
As this took place in the afternoon it makes me wonder if this is something similar.
It must have been very traumatic for the adult as well.

A massive tragedy for everyone that will never be undone.
This is what has generally put me off doing much with my 10yr old. They can’t know or understand the importance of safety no matter how much you tell them - and at the end of the day you are giving them the opportunity to do something that could be terrible. My one is quite impulsive as well so it’s heightened and he or I could be at risk.
I will return to it as he gets older but for now, for me, cricket rugby and fishing are lower down the risk spectrum. Or sitting next to me fidgeting in a high seat.
Some kids I know would be fine but the tiny voice in my head asks if it’s worth it, and that’s sad but the reality for me anyway.
