Ticks on new pup

Morning, new to dog ownership and loving it. He hasn't had his second jab so only been out in our garden. In the two weeks we have had him we have extracted three ticks, mainly off his ears. He has had treatment by the vet but curious why all the ticks are an orange colour? All were latched on well and feeding but seemed dead or dying. Is that how the treatment works? Part of thinks the treatment explains the colour of the ticks compared to what I get on me and the deer. Sorry for stupid question!

If it’s tablets from the vet they kill the ticks but don’t stop them latching on.

I had the same with my pup, don’t like the idea of letting the tick latch on so changed to a Seresto tick collar which I’d used with previous dogs and haven’t had a tick on him since. They’re quite expensive but last for 8 months or so.
