just wondering what tick remedies people use on there working dogs especially when working on moors heather etc?i tend to use advantix which is good and ticks don't seem to latch thats why I changed, but used to use frontline in which i found ticks were still attaching to the dog.was speaking to someone today in which he uses tablet form instead of viles you put on dogs coat but the price of tablet form is expensive compared to the viles so must be good id imagine.
was just wondering has any dog owners ever had any issues with tablet form if they give there dog it with any reactions or stomach upsets etc as might give the tablet form a go.
like to here some peoples views on this what brands etc reasons,.

thanks in advance :thumb:

Soak the dog's collar in 0.4% dilution of permethrin, spring and hugh summer ; less toxic to the dog than organophosphate based treatments. Do your trousers at the same time, you'll not have ticks coming on to you either.

Despite what it seems, there are no tick repellents. There are just efficient tick killers and inefficient ones, frontline - as a tick stays still, it doesn't pick enough up so it's not efficient. Advantix is good (NOT CATS!!!) and the tablets of the newer products (vet only) are really good. Speak to your vet practice about what's best in your location

What are your thoughts on Bravecto, a tablet that does three months. I am not keen on topping up poison in my dog, but apparently it works really well. We are alive with the things here.

Thanks guys Think I’m gonna switch to tablet from as I’m still taking ticks off him (damn things)I can always tell when he’s got them on him as he down in mood and scratches more.dont know what it is but never seen them as bad as they are just now must have been all that rain early in year.

I have been using Nexgard for the last three years...since Frontline plus stopped working on fleas. Nexgard tablets are made by Merial who make Frontline...

Since using it I have only taken off small ticks which have been dead and not engorged...as soon as they latch on it seems to bump them off immediately.

I don't think any tablet can prevent them from latching on, the chemicals work by killing them once they latch on and ingest it.

Bravecto is in my opinion very good, no ticks or fleas on my two year round “BUT” mustn’t be given to a dog that has Epilepsy !!!
Same results - totally effective whereas I’ve had to dig 5 out of me, one of which bulls-eyed necessitating antibiotics. I don’t like the idea of giving it to my Vizsla and in the US, there’s some real horror stories over fatalities but it does work and she seems ok. Have lowered the dose to Medium and still seems as effective.
