Hi there,
As quite a few on here own and use a Tikka T3 I thought I would share a problem I encountered and a field expedient solution.
I will add that all this happened before the lockdown.
Out on range doing load development for some new ammo and zeroing before stalking. Last round fired, eject spent case slowly to inspect brass.
Having had a look at the case I retracted my bolt all the way to allow a new round and mag to be inserted, only to find the bolt had come off the rifle and was now hanging loose in my hand.
Realised that the bolt stop (more specifically, the pin holding it in place) had failed. As luck would have it, the bolt stop was recovered but the spring that keeps it under tension had gone walkies.
The retaining pin had broken/sheared off in the lower half of the receiver. Not sure what caused it as I am not one to ram the bolt back with undue force.
Anyway, after a slight head scratch I realised there might be a solution, the aftermarket stock that I bought off a gent on here came with a spare trigger guard.
There is a spring and pin that hold the mag catch in place, I removed that and installed it on the rifle, pin came up short but it worked fine until I sourced a replacement pin from here (measurements are 2mm diameter 16mm length): Stainless Steel Dowel Pins DIN7 Parallel Pins 2mm 2.5mm 3mm 4mm 5mm 6mm | eBay
Not that everyone has a spare trigger guard lying about but if you are ever in this situation, there is a quick fix. The spring works fine (I suspect they are the same dimensions).
Cheers.
