Tikka T3X Magazine

Has anyone had any issues with the tikka t3x magazine ? If I put one bullet in the mag it will chamber the round, anymore than that and the bolt doesn’t seem to catch the bullet, got a shot of a friends from his .243 and we put 4 in and it chambered them no bother, so bought another new one and it does exactly the same as my original one. This is all with a new T3X super varmint.308. Shop I bought it from is over an hour away from me so not really wanting to take it back if it’s something easy to fix

Occasionally with my .223 T3x Lite, 4-round plastic mag I have an issue where it doesn't pick up the next round, a quick press when the bolt is open on the next round, and it usually cycles.
A friend who has just purchased a Roughtec has a similar problem, his mag is a larger capacity than mine.
I normally load the mag and give it a tap to knock the ammo forward, and it seems to work ok.
I'll watch with interest what others have to say.

Same with mine, also 223.
You must be able to compare with your friends mag in his gun and yours, then vice versa ?

BC.
There doesn’t seem to be any difference between both magazines or guns apart from calibre difference, can’t figure out why it works with .243 rounds but not .308 but his older mag works with both

Chamber a' bullet from the magazine, then' remove the empty' magazine and load two bullets in it and refit, eject chambered round and see if it will load. ? ?

Because both the cartridge cases above are so similar would your friends 243 mag take 308 rounds (I know that some of the Mauser series will) and if so will it work in your rifle. I suspect that the rear if your magazine isn't locking in high enough when there is a bit of extr weight in the magazine. Really shove it home and see how you go, also clean round the latching mechanism.

It seams that when the magazine is clicked into place it won’t cycle rounds but if you push it in further there’s about 3mm of play and if you hold it in tight it cycles rounds no bother. The question now is, is there any way of adjusting the mag catch so it fits tighter?

I’ve had similar issues with my 6 round tikka 223 mag. I brought the gun used so just thought it was a tired spring in the mag, I’ll try giving a tap like you said. Does this fix it every time ?

It does for me. I'm aware of the slight problem now, so I pay particular attention to loading the mag.
I'm also highly aware of listening for the metallic sound of a new round being picked up when you cycle the bolt.
Also, I only put three rounds in the mag as well. It seems as if the problem was when I crammed four into it.
I'll live with it. Other than that small issue, the rifle is perfect now I have replaced the trigger spring with one from @BE Precision, well worth doing.

I’ve a 5 round mag for my .308 roughtech, it’s cycle 4 but the spring isn’t strong enough to offer the 5 to the bolt. It’s a joke! I’ve the 3 shot and it’s perfect. We’ve got plenty of fallow and a 3 shot mag sometimes isn’t enough.

That reminds me of a thread somewhere on here about how many deer you would/have shot in one sitting... I think it was @Ronin who came back with something like 18 Reds, he had two 10-shot magazines if I remember correctly, I could only imagine that, my best is three, could have been four, but guess what, the 2nd round didn't feed from a Tikka plastic mag

My Tikka T3 (not -X) Super Varmint in .223" was a nightmare for failing to feed cartridges from the original plastic magazine into the chamber. I have a photo on my phone of a spent cartridge case and three live rounds on the ground at my feet as I tried to shoot a CWD. (Luckily, it played the game and stood still long enough to get a round into the [flippin'] chamber...

I bought an updated (steel inserts) mag, and this appears to have rectified the issue (as long as I work the bolt swiftly and decisively.)

Silly question maybe, but is the action properly bedded into the stock? I've got three Tikka T3x Super Varmints (.223, .243 and .308) and there's no play in the magazines and I certainly couldn't push them further in by another 3mm. I know the .223 is known to suffer from magazine issues whereby the lips of the magazine wear and as a result doesn't hold the rear of the cartridges high enough to catch the bolt, but I don't think is an issue on other calibres.

I just bought a new t3x roughtec in 308 recently, its working fine so far ,BUT I had a similar sounding problem with my Sako A7 in 243 shortly after buying it new, bolt would jam on feeding 2nd round and sometimes throw the next round in mag right out ,landing on ground and deforming tip.I think its to do with the cheap crapy plastic mag. Never had a prob before with metal ones. Eventually the gun shop in Sussex got me a replacement (£80) free from Sako. Fixed problem.
As soon as warranty over it happened again, really off-putting not knowing if you have a second shot. This time GMK didn't want to know. Only when i brought up health and safety legality's of a round going off if landing badly did they change their mind and sent me 2 replacement mags and no more probs so far.
The T3X is a great rifle so hoping this doesn't happen again with this gun. Apparently its the feeder lips that spread open over time as only moulded in the plastic,

Used a new T3X Roughtec for the first time yesterday on live quarry (very pleased with the performance 🤗) in .270.

No issues from the supplied 3-round magazine but I had also bought a new Tikka 5-round mag into which I had loaded my "spare rounds". On coming to unload that art home, rounds 2-5 stuck with the rear lifting and the front depressed. Going to have a play later today but GLAD I used the 3-round mag yesterday!

All bolts are all tight everything sits as it should apart from the mag it doesn’t sit flush, front of the mag pointing down when clipped into position, maybe try one of the metal magazines and see if that makes any difference
