Tikka T3X Varmint

As said
no appreciable weight saving between the Sporter/Lite, Varmint and Super Varmint stock
1-200gr tops

either sell and replace
or
flutethe varmint barrel - you will dump a pound off the barrel weight
or
chop the barrel down

I have the 20" 308 and have seriously considered chopping to 16 or 18"

Is fluting the barrel an option? What sort of cost would that be?

What scope and mod are you using?

You need to list the weight each part to understand where the best weight saving against cost can be achieved.

I have one a 223 and to be honest without spending a fortune you are not going to benefit buy a decent sling that spreads the weight

Hi All,

I've got a Tikka T3X Varmint. I'm looking to save a little bit of weight so wondered if I could swap the varmint stock for a normal profile stock? Does anyone know if this would work? The varmint model has a heavy profile barrel, so not sure if the normal profile stock would fit it?! Any thoughts anyone??

Thanks

Tom
Hi there

Did you ever manage to knock some weight off? I'm in similar, and new rifle not an option (tikka stopped making 204s)

Barrel weight is the killer. If you want a heavier barrel than the normal skinny sporter but varmint is tooo much then have a look for a semi weight (about #5 profile). You get many of the benefits of the varmint profile for lower volume shooting but much less weight.

Some of the Bergara's are semis, certainly Blaser does them not sure of others. Custom obviously.

Oh, Tikka CTR (and UPR ?) are semi weight.

Traded my old varmint barrel Remington .222 for a TX3 Hunter, just as accurate, but a lot more practical, varmint barrel fine for bench or truck, but lugging around stalking or free hand was a pain. So glad I did, it put the joy back to having a roam round. One thing I noticed was you have to hold the Tikka a lot tighter into shoulder for good grouping, muzzle flip is more of an issue, a mod helps, but not completely.
