Timney trigger install issue!

Interesting slightly different to mine but possibly same age. Mine apparently is a 700P (just out of interest I'm going to email remington to see if they have original spec of my serial number) has a heavy parkerised 26" barrel . It's now in an AI stock. Still very pleased with purchase even if trigger not as expected.
Yes, your trigger looks more like the one I pulled off my '96 era 700VS (the original version with HS Precision stock with aluminum bedding block). Which was also a 26" heavy barrel/parkerized barreled rifle.

Mine is a SPS Tactical with a 20 inch heavy barrel, came with a bendy Houge stock but now has a HS Precision stock and a Rifle Baisix trigger.

Oh well! So much for getting info from Remington lol

If you need a new rem OEM trigger I, like many on here I suspect, have a drawer full.

When funds allow, get a Timney/ rifle basix/ Jewell. Makes a heck of a difference.

Remember also that Remington recalled their 700 series rifles fitted with the X Mark Pro trigger (rifles made between May 2006 and April 2014) as there was an issue with the way it was assembled. I took mine out and replaced it with a Timney and dremmelled out part of the (aftermarket) stock to fit it. However, I'd be wary of seeking out an original from those years as they may not be safe. There's one on my workbench, and although it was "fettled" by Roger or Dave from South Yorkshire Shooting (as was) and worked beautifully, I wouldn't want it putting onto a rifle.

Thanks guys. No problems with the trigger fitted, yes i knew about the rem trigger issues but apparently as mine has a ribbed trigger face it's not one of the XMP ones , but will certainly look to upgrade it in the near future.

Good evening guys, bit of a longshot but thought I'd ask in the hope that I'll get a better idea of how to proceed.
I recently bought a secondhand Timney trigger from the classified section, thought I'd put it in my rem 700 .223, Aics legacy 2.0 folder. Took it apart fitted it to the action , replaced in stock.
It sort of fits but the safety won't move as its clearly being pinched. I've read articles about grinding away parts of the trigger pin and grinding away some internals in the stock with a dremmel. I'm finding it very difficult to suss out what is snagging.
Just wondered if anyone had any definitive answers or ideas or had fixed this issue themselves.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
All the best

Buy some engineers blue and put on the trigger. It will transfer to the stock where it engages. Or smoke it in as an alternative of course, but harder to see on dark materials

Talc can work too, cocaine gets expensive, chalk doesn’t transfer that well

A marker pen or black boot polish also work.

Don’t remove anything from the trigger, it’s the stock that’ll want relieving by removing material from the stock at the side where the workings of the safety slide about.

Hi mate, sounds like you may have the same issue i had. The other week.
When you tighten up the trigger guard im guessing it will get stuck. Back both bolts off so they are loose then try it and see if it works then.
This is what happened to mine, i had to shim the back screw on the trigger guard with a bit of milk carten doubled over to stop it pinching.

I hope this makes sense lol

Brilliant thanks Guys for your advice. I'll give it a try this weekend and get back to you.
Have a great weekend.

Hi Rascal, thank you for asking. Due to other commitments I haven't managed to get a proper look at it since I last posted. You never know I may ge a chance this weekend, but I'm not holding my breath!

OK, I've finally got round to sorting the problem which was, when you apply the safety to safe , a pin sticks out of the opposite side of the trigger housing by a few millimeters.
The stock obstructs it from sticking out all the way , hence the safety cannot be applied whilst sat in its rightful place in the stock.
The solution was to take a dremmel to it and relieve the stock a few millimetres in the area where the pin protrudes.
Hope this makes sense.
Anyway, it now works perfectly.
Thank you for your advice guys.
All the best
