First a bit of a ramble. For thirty years we heated with nothing but firewood and only recognized two defined seasons; one where the butter, if left out would spread easily and the other not. So, for me there is only one choice that works in all seasons and that is buttered while hot and allowed to melt in deeply.
Incoming--if I have scrambled egg or marmalade, definitely no butter (plant butter in my case). If accompanied by MARMITE, butter the Hot toast, then spread Marmite while the butter is still melting. Yum yum
This year is the first year for almost as long as I can remember that we've actually bought butter. Prior to that it was all homemade, from our own cows.
I can't say that I'm enjoying bought butter very much, but it's better than no butter at all.
Just when I thought Budget day couldn't get any worse, I vote in the poll, and discover that three quarters of the stalking community is comprised of people with dubious taste and no sense of decorum. Toast cold and crisp, please, with copious plastering of salted (English) butter !
