A great programme put out by the BBC at a time when we need all the positive support we can get !

Outstanding programme. A few familiar faces there, I used to share digs with Karl Ivens about 25 years ago! Not sure who the ugly bloke butchering the deer in the school was though!
 
Yes and if we want to keep our guns as in the other thread that is the way to do it. well done to all concerned.

+1 The program should be repeated twice a week for the next 3 months people may then take note. Yes the kids at the school loved the whole experience. I have always found this to be so each year i give a talk to a local village scout group on country persuits, giving gundog display, Ferret display, Gun and Knife safety etc. The talk finishes with a hands on plucking Pigeons, Crowning Pheasants and skinning Rabbits the youngsters never fail to get stuck in. My wife then will cook Pigeon burgers and the scouts (some girls) will almost fight over who gets the first burger. This i think is the way forward to encourage young blood into our sport and promote the consumer to buy Game in whatever form. Anyone who thinks of doing a local scout night/youth club talk if you contact NGO they will send enough DVD's for each youngster BASC will send Mags and pens (maybe WH Smiths will supply mags as they won't be selling many :rofl:) but never managed to get anything from CA.

The Fallow chop didn't exactly portray a lean 'fat free' meat though did it?:doh:
I've never see so much fat on a piece of venison. looked more like a fatty lamb chop.

Good programme but who was paying attention to the carcases hanging up I see more and more of the same
aitch bones left intact, how many on here don't split aitch bones, many gamedealers and mine certainly won't accept carcases where the aitch bone and breast bone have not been split.

All those carcases would be rejected by my gamedealer as they maintain that carcases where the aitch bone has not been split do not cool quick. enough.

I know a lot of people like their meat rare, but that burger! a good vet could have saved that beast:rofl:

Good representation of deer management, did anybody else think the shot shown may not have been the one that killed the roe? No follow through, just didnt look right to me??

Anyway nice to see a well presented programme on behalf of deer and their management
 
Fantastic show! All the right issues were raised that people may have concerns about, and they were all answered in a positive way.

far to much game is cooked like "non game"
I had grouse in a 2 star Michelin restaurant........it was essentially raw!!

Cooking game the way game used to be cooked is one of the biggest turn offs. The popularity of game as a food has come about since people stopped hanging it till it started moving again, lets not go back there. :-D
 
True but even roe need to be split.

Most game dealers this side of the wall most game dealers don't like the aches split as there is no requirement in a correctly designed cold room the carcass will not cool any quicker with the aches split.

Just goes to show the difference , mine will point blank refuse to accept them.
