Any one know the realistic range for night shots from a browning strike force hd pro x trail cam??? it Says 80ft but im not convinced. im getting getting black piccys. its not the batteries as i changed them for new lithium ones and the cam flashes fine in the house at short ranges. im guessing its detecting deer out at 80 ft so its taking a picture right enough but the ir is just not up to that sort of work so its black.i would say 25 to 40 feet absolute max but time will tell

I’ve not used that model of trail cam but here are some after dark pics from my cheap Campark (£50) from eBay trail cam. Animals are about 30 yards away from the camera and the trees in the background about 50 yards away.

The range of any trail cam after dark will depend on the strength and quality of the IR onboard torch. I think 80 yards might be a bit of marketing hype from the manufacturer, but I would expect to get a good 50 yards from even a cheap camera.

Atmospheric conditions will also have an impact, in wet or very damp conditions with a lot of moisture in the air the IR will tend to bounce back and ranges and image quality will be reduced.

I think it takes good photos for its price, that’s interesting. What’s the exact model, please? Are you happy with it?
