Trail camera card viewer

I’d be interested to hear what folk use to view their trail camera images. The small screen on the camera is ok for daytime images but useless for night images so I take the card out and look at it at home on a laptop. There must be an easier way.

Can you not use a Micro SD in a larger adapter for the camera and then when checking the cams, remove the micro SD and whack it in your phone to view in situ before replacing for the stint of pics you want taken?

I carry a spare, empty SD card and put that into the trail camera, after taking out the existing card.

A good tip is to always carry spare or at least check the cameras battery levels, when checking the SD cards. Frustrating when the batteries are low, out in the field and you have no new ones.

Regarding viewing the SD card pictures, it can be done a few ways, a suitable laptop or PC, a mobile phone, mobile tablet or via a dedicated SD card viewing monitor.

I use an SD card adapter and can view on my mobile phone or my phone tablet on site
( without the need for putting a new SD card in )

It depends how much you want to spend on additional kit.

An extra card is not essential, but an SD card adapter is,
as it makes viewing camers pictures / videos, easier on a bigger screen in the warm + dry, rather than out in the freezing cold + rain, at the camera site !

SD cards + adapters available from the usual sources, Ebay. Amazon etc.

Good luck, which ever route you choose to go down.

Generally I have two sets of cards and simply swap them over when I go to the cameras.

One thing worth considering is that if you carry a "point and shoot" type stills camera with you then they can usually read the image data on the trail camera cards. So you can pop the card into your point and shoot camera and look at the images on the bigger screen plus most cameras allow you to zoom in etc. I would almost always have the camera with me so if I wanted a quick look then this worked for me.

Faced with just the same issue I bought a secondhand Samsung HMX-W200 on eBay.

It takes the micro-SD cards, which I can also use in the trail cameras by putting them into a regular SD card adapter.

This means I can scroll through all the photos and videos when I am at the trail camera itself.

The extra card works well when you’ve only 1 camera, not so well when you have several. I have an I phone so no cards - hence my problem. I wonder if the digital photo frames will play video - anyone know the answer?

I use one of these with my IPhone , had to download a simple app to work with it. It works so well I have even deleted my go pro app as use this for micro SD cards too.
