Turkish shotguns - what do you know?

I bought a huglu as my first shotgun, still have it amd wouldn't part with it, think I paid 700 for it brand new, nice detailing and fit. I was told by the rfd that they used to make parts for other shotguns before making their own. Think it is winchester they made bits for but can't remember as it was a few years ago

In reply to Heym SR20, I have indeed been trying selected steel loads in my 70 year old Webley s/s and my 50 year old Nikko o/u. The Lyalvale 2.5" loading with 28 grams of steel and a top wad closure seems to be quite effective in Hampshire, but not in SW Scotland where the birds are more canny and higher. The Nikko now has 1/8th plus 1/2 choke, and is also OK in lowland England. I plan to try the Hull 2.5" steel load once I can lay hands on some.
In the meantime I await the decision about lead shot before I have the full choke barrel of the Webley opened out...

I've owned one Yildiz and one Huglu , nothing overly fancy , but both were good , solid and reliable shotguns . I still have the Yildiz , but I gave the Huglu to my perpetually broke nephew , he loves it ............... cheap little b*****d.

Yildiz produces some remarkably good guns for the money. A friend has a Pro Black Grade 4 Adjustable, for £2000 it is truly an amazingly good gun. The wood is better than anything I've seen on guns costing twice as much.

I have an armsan 612 s/a, never misses a beat, great value. My only gripe is the importer never had it proofed for hp steel despite the instructions suggesting otherwise and others having the proof stamp. I've put a few hp steel cartridges through it without issue, I'd love to know why it was never proofed and stamped with the fleur de lys.

Having lived there, used and owned most of them, my two pence is as below.
The best shotgun maker there is called AKUS which is also producer of Wembley and Scott. ( Ana Sayfa | Akus Silah ) This company has the best and most experienced gunsmiths in Konya region which is called gunmaker's city having probably more than %80 of gun making companies of Turkey in the city.
Yildiz, and Ata are also good companies with having above average quality shotguns in the country. Hatsan and Armsan is average. Huglu is the probably oldest one and used to be good but now their quality is hit and miss.
I wouldn't touch rest of them.

Had a hatsan, but rough around the edges but genuinely couldn't complain.
Had it in some foul weather, covered in mud and it never failed it accounted for no end of stuff did me for a long time and only cost me 250 quid with a slab chucked in.
I actually regret getting rid of it for a beretta a350 extrema that I had no end of problems with including its exploding rather spectacularly and constantly jamming once fixed.
I really rate Turkish guns as cheap do it all started guns

I sell a lot of Turkish guns, value for money on the semi,s, but the Churchill’s have a habit of throwing the cocking handle with heavy loads. No problems with webley and Scott, used to sell a lot of armsans, ( importer now Gone ) which were the best.

As above, I bought a Hatsan auto as a knock about/vermin gun and couldn’t fault it. Only times I ever had issues with it was when I was too lazy to clean it and it took a bit to get it to the stage.
Sooo many people sneered at me when I bought it and told me to buy a benelli (I couldn’t afford it or justify saving for one) but anyone I spoke to who actually had one said go for it, glad I did.

My Hatsan Escort has worked faultlessly on vermin shoots and at the clay ground when I was practicing before a rabbit shoot and with a variety of loads.
The only time it caused no end of problems cycling cartridges was when I put it back together without one of the O rings

I have had an Escort wood model, cracking bit of wood never missed a beat in the seven years I have had it. I also an ATA elegance again great gun for the money, handles really well. ATA make good guns to the point I bought one of their air rifles, a. pcp for under £400, but it does the job really well. Turkish guns and rifles are very underrated which is a shame.
When we are talking guns built by machines it comes down to what raw material and the effort that's put into finding faulty parts . Build budgets will remove or add stages to processes. Pay for a worker in the UK is a significant amount more in Germany , UK than it is Turkey , Poland .
TBF what we see in the UK is not the full story and that's because we are not asking for the best stuff , just the stuff that will turn a good profit for the importer and retailer .
