TVP, my experience

I moved to the Thames valley area for a new position and if I'm honest was not looking forward to the change from a very good licensing area (Northumberland) to what came across as a poor performing one. Initially I sent two emails before I moved to arrange for a chat regarding security etc, neither were replied to, but what follows is as accurate as I recall.

  • 15th May, informed Northumbria Police of the move
  • 16th May, Northumbria confirmed my file had been forwarded to TVP
  • 20th May, letter from TVP telling me that my FAC/SGC renewal must go in six months before expiry (I have less than four months remaining)
  • 23rd May, renewals sent off

Shortly after this I was contacted for a visit, this however was not to do my renewal, but because I'd moved to the area, very friendly and helpful chap who was a former soldier and police firearms officer, all went well and he made a note my renewal was in.

Received a text to say my renewal was being processed, this to me showed how long it had been sat on a desk before being looked at, I then got a call from the same FEO who done my visit, all well and renewal would be sent out, two weeks later receive another text confirming the same.
This morning (the day they expire) my new tickets arrived.

OK, not a rapid service, and quite longer than what I'm used to and certainly room for improvement but both tickets delivered to me in time

Ha ha ha, that is rapid. You wanna try West Mercia.

Was considering putting a variation in for a longer range rabbit gun but I think it might be quicker to let them die of old age.

Sent off a 1-4-1 after selling a .22LR (swapping 2x .22LR slots for .25 Air and another .223) on 26.09.17 - arrived back in the post from TVP today!

I've just got my renewals back from TVP. Sent the forms off in June. Back last week. I found them very helpful and friendly. As much as we complain about turnaround times they are very busy. My FEO sent the OK back to Kiddlington who noticed a few differences between my last licence and current ie target shooting at Bisley on some of my rifles had been removed. He took the time to check with me and make sure the new licence was accurate. All received and everything as it should be!
They are definitely trying to improve things, and that has to be a good thing. Thumbs up from me!

I know this will probably light the blue touch paper, BUT I have to thank Thames Valley Police... Sent in a variation last Monday and received it back on the Friday..
