Tyre feedback

Looking for some feedback on tyres.

Currently got BFG Mud Terrain on the pickup. I have done over 60,000 miles on them, and they weren't new when I bought the vehicle. I have been told by the garage that does my servicing etc that they wont pass the next MOT

I have found them to be hopeless on mud, grass, ice and snow, and verging on dangerous on wet tarmac. The only surface they excell on is shale or gravel, such as forestry roads, and for that reason alone I was considering replacing with the same again, as my farm is at the top of such a track.

My local tyre bloke is quite open about the fact that the only real reason people buy them is because they look cool, not because they perform well. And as a result of being trendy they're pricey.
As a much more "workmanlike" option, he is suggesting that I go for the Wildgear Falcon Mud Terrain tyres instead. They certainly look a lot "grippier". And they're a lot cheaper.

Anyone got any firsthand experience of the Falcon, or done a comparison of the two?

Top photo is the Wildgear Falcon, and bottom photo is the BFG. As you can see, the BFG presents a lot of flat surface, despite the appearance of being "knobbly".

Can't comment on the wildgear, all I know is, my boss won't touch BFG and has coopers exclusively, an estate near me (grouse moor) are looking to replace BFG as they're having a lot of splitting and excessive wear

Going by appearance, they look to be midway between the two. Would you agree?

I would say my coopers look a bit more aggressive - they are however considerably bigger and widder

I think i have 2 new ones of both at home
I will post a picture at some stage mate

My photo of the Falcon is not the wide version, but that's all they had in stock for me to look at. I'll need wide on my pickup.

The Coopers in the photo you sent me look a bit more aggressive than the BFG, but not as "grippy" as the Falcon.

What percentage of your driving is off-road? The fact your current mud terrain tyres aren't cutting it and are also dangerous on wet tarmac poses a challenge that none of what you've proposing will fully address.

Go for a set of BFG All-Terrain TA KO2 and live to stalk another day!

Currently trying the BF Goodrich Trail Terrain tyres- my thinking is not so hard and less road rumble as the Ko2 - main deer ground is a few hours down the motorway. Also if I need an aggressive mud tyre it is probably too wet to be on the ground anyway. The estate would not be happy with deep ruts in fields and woods.

Why do BFG call the ones I've currently got "mud terrain" if they're so hopeless in mud, I'd like to know? I need to do stuff like pull a loaded livestock trailer out of a wet field.
But as I've said before, they're great on gravel etc.
Regardless of the total percentage of my driving that is "off road", I do have to be able to get in and out of my own farm, usually with a trailer. This Isuzu fitted with these tyres is the only vehicle I've ever had that doesn't lose traction towing 3.5t up our track.

But I think there's too much flat surface on the BFG tyres, which is why they struggle on other kinds of slippy terrain.
The Falcon tyres appear to address that, but I was hoping someone could give some feedback based on actually having used them.

I'll have a look 👍

geolander 015 cracking tyre
I brought my truck with bfg. muds on and they were lethal on tarmac.

I'm now on my second set of Geolanders. Only downside I've found is they don't shed the mud very well between the block tread until you leave the field and hit the tarmac. You then go sideways for 50 yards until the tread pattern clears. 😂😂 apart from that a great tyre.

BFG mud terrains hopeless in mud ? Sounds more like operator error.🤔
Well I'm not the only one who's said it. Pretty much anyone I've spoken to who's got those particular tyres on their truck has been disappointed with their performance on wet and/or muddy surfaces.
I think I'm inclined to agree with the tyre dealer: People buy them because they look cool. Most of those people probably only go off road when they park on the pavement. So that's basically what they're designed and sold for.
