UK Government Launches UK Deer Management Strategy Consultation

For all his faults, I think Eustice is of the opinion that it is hands-off regulation if/while that works. When it ceases to, unfortunately central govt wants to have a say. Its clear that current practice hasnt worked well in some areas. But you cant legislate for some areas.... so all will be affected.

With human residential property close to my little patch, I rarely see any deer in daylight hours. I would welcome the chance to shoot later into the night. Not sure if thermal will show antlers, though, except at very close range.

Could longer hours and extend the season be the answer over a couple of years (plus night shooting if possible )
Put our heads together then show them what we feel will work. (with out us all going at each other as every one as a different opinion)

If the British venison market could guarantee a steady supply of wild venison to supermarkets at a price lower than imported of farmed venison then that would be the place to start with an advertising campaign to encourage the public to try more venison.
Let them know that it is an ecologically better product them imported venison from NZ and that it isn't just for the upper class and has a strong gamey taste. Get the demand up, the supply sorted and hopefully the support of the public and landowners behind deer management.

See instead of all the bickering we are getting suggestions .Could we not do a some thing for food banks the emergency services are having to go to food banks. Only a thought

I would not mind the night shooting assuming Its encouraged to be a last resort / for females.
If we can shoot males any time of the year there's not much reason to shoot them at night(?) But females still being In season if it does not go to plan someone could control there population during night time.

I do not mind shooting males any time of the year long as something Is being added to the cull I do not mind, If there's no hinds out that night but and someone spotted a young stag they might as well take it.
Hinds are always the priority! but we still have a cull plan for stags that Is almost entirely spikes this year that still needs to be filled.

Our larder holds a few roe and one red, If we could donate the reds I think we would In a heart beat, The estate owner has no desire to let us sell the deer.

If some was donated to good causes could we not keep the those who shoot and supply the food chain at fair price per carcass .
Lets not flood the market with deer forcing the price down any further than it is now pro stalkers need to make a living.

the emergency services are having to go to food banks. Only a thought
A lot of people say they ‘have to go to foodbanks’ when they also choose to eat expensive takeaways, smoke, drinks after work (for team bonding innit), have an expensive Sky package and drive flash motors on HP.

Im even aware of a few in dark blue who indulge in the type of Charlie that isnt the fox.

I give venison away, but I know it goes to a good home.

But extending the times gradually would hopefully show unforseen problems with rule changes. Like a massive flood of venison on the market
Or it will just delay what needs to be done to reduce the huge numbers of deer that are the whole reason this consultation has come about.
