UK Government Launches UK Deer Management Strategy Consultation

I don’t disagree and indeed the fact the BDS are stamping their feet with frustration at not being directly consulted only lends weight to the fear there is already a defined policy that just needs the post consultation closing date rubber stamp.

That said even if our worst fears come to pass the fact remains someone has to be behind all those additional triggers and given of an increased rate of fire.

Bds a well intentioned society ahead of its time at one point all power to them, for me what is still needed is a government run body employing people with a established track record in deer management , with a few academics thrown in the mix to add scientific weight.
That would mean a understanding of species, population dynamics, carrying out counts and advising on all things deer, With their welfare and ours at their core, possibly too much to ask in the great scheme of things.
If we had such a group we would not be where we are now, wherever that may be.

But only a few of BDS have shoot deer so how can they run it. This would be for profit yet again giving them more money same as BASC

There is such a government run body. It's called Forestry England.

It maybe worth the government using the same model that natural England uses to control other animals, that works very well

Some of us might be assuming BDS has the best interest of deer at heart, and not vested interests. Sometimes they appear to not help themselves... I am interested in a healthy, vibrant deer population, especially native, not individual deer.I am a BDS member.

Also would take time for a individual or group to get to know an area with site visits and all that goes with it before a shot was fired so not something that can happen over night, could foresee some private land owners getting the wake-up call and making more of an effort one way or another. Think in truth only changes will be in seasons, and night shooting perhaps A grant or two and no cavalry coming over the hill anytime soon, but you never know might keep a few bottoms puckering, and it all was one awful nightmare.🤣

Surely over a few years there will be some lower deer figures after we all had lockdown time for the deer numbers to increase .
Less road kills as all of us locked in doors for months and no shooting extend the shooting season for at least two years then review the numbers again.

Lockdown had very little effect on deer numbers here. There have been way too many for years.

Glad to see I was put right about certain areas having to many deer for years before lockdown , Do we need to cull more males and females over a longer season ,
