Unlined waterproof smock

Fjallraven vardag anorak is good. It’s G1000 so it’s tough as old boots and can be waxed to the point of being very water resistant (or left alone for perfect breathabilit).

The only real downsides are cost and the fact they don’t do it in olive/drab if you care about that kind of thing.

Beyond useless as a stalking smock in the wet!

It’s not waterproof, even with ludicrous application of wax.

It’s heavy, absorbs water like a sponge and absurdly over priced. The bushcraft community like it because it doesn’t melt when sparks from open fires land on it.

I like Fjallraven stuff and think the Vidda Pro trousers are about the absolute best you can get as general purpose outdoor trousers.

But their jackets are completely useless as waterproof layers.

See my earlier comments about ventile. Cotton is simply not an appropriate base material for any clothing to be used in low temperatures when likely to get wet.

Yes, as quiet as you need. I've certainly never had an issue.

When you say handle bramble etc - depends what you mean. They're not thorn 'proof' like traditional tweed, but similarly, they don't shred when you have to wade through a thicket. They cope with thorns better than, say, army surplus MTP trousers, which I've found can rip quite easily. Not as well as something really heavy duty, like Carrharts (but then I don't think I'd want to be stalking in those).

They're not perfect, mind - as with everything Fjallraven make, they're overpriced by about 30%, so I tend to wait til I can find them on sale.
