UPDATE: TVP FAC/SGC Renewals

Just had letters from TVP asking me to renew early for a reduced fee so that they can avoid the issues at normal renewal. This was caused by the shift to 5 year licences apparently, and there will be a huge number of us renewing at the same time in 2 years. Reduction is to £25 for co-terminous, but still going to charge for the Doctor's report.
Thoughts...?

My shooting partner had the same offer from West Mercia but without the reduction in fees, he declined.

Ian.

Sounds like they are they asking you to “surrender”your current certificates and make a fresh application for coterminus grant. Unless legislation has changed a certificate must run for a five year term, therefore a renewed certificate would only be valid from the expiry date of your current one. Got to say fair play to TVP for being pro active in attempting to iron out the renewal “bulge” caused by the change from 3 to 5 year certificates. Interested to see if other licensing authorities are adopting a similar approach.

This thread has been running since 2015 and we know how crap its been, now BASC want ticket holders in the Thames Valley region to give them their views on how things have been going or not as the case may be. ( what do you mean they've just removed half your stuff off your ticket at the touch of a button !!!!! by accident)
So this is your chance to have your say.
The link will take you to the BASC Firearms desk so you can email them.

Thames Valley Police needs your help -

Had the same and just about through the process. Works out about the same cost as usual havin to pay £50 to the GP but still a saving had it been full price and the GP fee.

A friend of mine has just done the same, as you say TVP seem to be approaching the issue proactively

Thames Valley Police is calling on BASC members to give their views on the current firearms licensing application process as part of a consultation.
They are asking members who have dealt directly with the force to answer the following questions:
  • What currently goes well in regards to the application process?
  • What part(s) of the process could be improved?
  • What are your experiences with other forces’ process? – What can we learn from them – both good and not so good?
  • Please share any other thoughts or comments in relation to the application process.
The force, who have just recently launched their online application system, also wants to hear from those members who plan to use the facility to find out what benefits they think it will bring.
Paul Dale, BASC’s firearms team manager, said: “The provision of an online digital platform for firearms licensing is something that BASC and shooters have been requesting for a long time.
We welcome any initiative that brings an improved service to our members. There will undoubtedly be teething problems and it is vital that Thames Valley receive feedback so that any faults can be rectified.
“We welcome an eCommerce solution to the licensing system. However, we are conscious that this must not be the only option available. Applicants must be given the opportunity to submit their applications by post if they so choose.
All feedback will be taken into account as the force makes recommendations to improve the process and arrange workshops to help make the application system easier and more streamlined.
Members have until February 3rd to give feedback. Please send all emails to firearms@basc.org.uk for the attention of Paul Dale and we will forward them on.

I hope that everyone replying will highlight the iniquitous medical evidence scheme being imposed on applicants.

What about all those of us that have given up on BASC?

I have had a similar letter.

Perhaps someone can help me - I thought expanding ammo was now deemed the same as any other ammunition. Is this not so ?

That’s correct. They are now treated in exactly the same way as non expanding.
No longer count towards your allowance if you’re a Reloader till actually made into a round. You can also buy them by post.
