Using thermal for stalking

I am sure this has been done to death, But I just wondered who is using a thermal as part of there stalking kit on every outing?
I have just watched a YouTube hunting film where the guide/gillie used a thermal in stead of binoculars as part of his approach to a shot on a muntjac!
Is this now the norm now?
I have a pulsar thermal until and its a fantastic bit of kit for finding foxes in the dark without the use of a light but I never use it when stalking as I am under no pressure to produce deer for a client or achieve cull numbers.
I have friends who's job it is to kill as many deer as possible and thermal is a very valuable tool in there box and I can see the value of using it for that purpose.
Just wondered who is using thermal scopes and spotters for stalking?

your views please
I use a thermal everytime i go out. It is a tool that makes me more efficient at controlling deer. I point out at this stage i am not a stalker. I am a deer controller

If you need thermals and the other techno ****bank gear, why not just buy an Xbox and a shoot em up game and leave the ground to those actually wanting to stalk deer...
100% or get a drone mounted 308 and exterminate deer from your bed :-)

It'd be legal to use in finding the deer so you could lay up and wait for first light, but that's just dam unethical IMHO.

I did say some years ago...... the beginning of the end for stalking.......if stalkers are happy to use them, they can't complain when poachers use them.

And the more the professional cullers use them, the quicker they'll be out of work and the stalkers will be out of deer.

There are not many who will not shoot more deer using them, all except the wise who know when to stop.

I wouldn’t use one staking recreationally for pleasure because as people say, it tips the balance well over but for shooting deer in forestry plantings I don’t even take binoculars out of the car, just the thermal because it doesn’t really matter what it is - if a heat signature is a rabbit or a deer then it’s getting shot.
Bloody expensive though, I’ve heard a few cheaper ones are on the horizon.

Depends on the type of 'stalking' we are talking about.

In Scotland there are murmurings that thermal rifle scopes will soon be legal for deer. Don't really agree with this as with a thermal there is always a risk of an obstruction being missed, like a fence wire, with potentially bad results. NV scope would be more sensible paired with a thermal spotter. But they are already being used for foxing, almost seen as essential kit now!

I wonder what the guys who started out with nothing more than a 3 draw telescope would say?

Where has the sport gone in knowing your ground, identifying trails, spotting fraying and coming back a few times to catch up with the deer. Investigating and getting to know the deer and then picking out an good cull prospect?

these days it seems like people are more worried about ‘wasting’ time or ‘getting the most’ of their time...but hold the phone, is your prerogative just shooting a deer no matter what, or getting a good and satisfying experience and appreciating a thoroughly planned out stalk with the knowledge you engaged in a fair sport.

if you can’t put in the time, or you’re in a rush, or you rented ground far away so the trip ‘must’ pay off, I urge you to take up another hobby..

if you work under contract to remove deer, ok, do as you need, but then you’re not a deerstalker anyway

I just gotta shot a deer every time I go stalking or I fail. I just gotta catch a fish every time I go fishing or I failed again. Oops that'd be called shooting and catching doh! Was dat a big pesky wabbit I saw in my NV/thermal jobby 8-)
