Vacuum sealing worth it or not?

Hi all just noticed there is a vacuum sealer coming up for sale for £20 in my local lidl I'm pondering it but I don't know if it would be a huge benefit or not.

Any body on here use one for their own use? I know nothing about vacuum sealing so any help would be appreciated.

I suppose it depends. If you scoff or give away all your meat within a week or two of getting it, then there's not really a lot of point. But if you intend freezing a pile and want it to stretch longer then vacuum sealers will prolong life in the freezer.

Vacuum packing extends the life of meat by removing air/oxygen that is needed for bacteria growth.
It reduces freezer burn, stops dehydration, increases space (no point in freezing air left in bags). Easier to organise space in the freezer, looks neat and tidy, this helps to rotate stock more efficiently.

For £20 it daft not to give it a go.

I got the Silvercrest one from Lidl last time and so far has been impressed by it. Do buy some spare rolls though. Its as simple as cutting a piece to your size, seal one side by pressing a buttom (takes about 7 seconds), fill it up and seal the other side depending on what you have. There are options for sealing if the contents are hard such as frozen meat or dry fruits or if its softer like vegetables, fruits or meat. So far it has worked well for me and is simple to use that my 2 year old assists me with the packaging (non meat products).

A good quality vacuum sealer (and good bags) is like heated seats in a car. Once you’ve had them you’ll never go back! Great for presentation and preventing freezer burn.

The Mrs has heated seats in her motor, i would rather have a cold bum at the start than a sweaty bum 2 minutes into the journey.

For £20 its a no brainer, better presentation and prevents freezer burn. Plus can be used for other foods ie;

I've got one of those. Reduces freezer burn, makes more space in the freezer and identifying what you've got easier if you label it. Buy spare rolls when on offer and just make sure, when you use it, that the bags SLIGHTLY bigger than you think, to get a good seal.

Thanks for all the info so far I think I will give it a try not much to lose if it doesn't work out I do buy bulk and spilt things up into portions for the freezer so it sounds like it will come in handy.

It’s an invaluable piece of equipment for me for all the reasons above. The rolls are cheapest from Butchers Sundries, last time I needed some they were out of stock & nowhere else was close to the Butchers Sundries price.

I get rolls and pre-made bags from Amazon. I had a cheap Amazon sealer which isn’t working very well after a year. I have just got myself an exciting new Buffalo machine.

I am fully converted

I use mine all the time catching fish and doing pheasant breasts would not be without it

Yes. If only for vacuum packing brass cartridge cases you want to store long term! Or items of silver. It also allows you to mess about with sous-vide cooking methods or with partial evacuation of the air make your own "boil in the bag" fish fillets with a favourite sauce. Remember that they can full evacuate the air, partly evacuate from just a little to make storage easier to, almost all for "boil in the bag", or just seal the bag. Mine...in fact I've two...is the same as DEVONAIR has. I also have a sealer machine that can that I brought back from Nigeria in about 2012 this is better for liquids as the heated strip is about six inches off the level of the bottom of the unit so the bag hangs down near vertical below where you want to seal it.
