Venison Prices

That's incredibly surprising, where about are you shooting them if you dont mind me asking? I'm assuming Its the galloway area obviously but the only deer I've shot sub 15kg Is that tiny little yearling buck, everything else is 17-20kg area.
Wow, a 17-20kg roe is a rarity in the larder.

Most recent decent buck I shot I weighed in at 39lbs larder weight I shot a buck a month or two before that that I didnt weigh but was quite a bit over that I'd reckon, I haven't shot a forest buck either what are heavier usually.

Sure yearlings and does are always smaller, but It would be rare too shoot an animal over 2 that's under 15kg here I'd reckon and for context I'm only a twenty minute drive or so from the smoke house, so not far.

13-14kg is average for me near Glen Luce tbf, assume the 10kg was a yearling

Mine are similar weights to yours. I'm also surprised that a game dealer would take anything in the 10-12kg range as its a lot of work for very little return. They must be desperate. If they aren't head shot then it's even worse for the game dealer.

Kind of my thought, there's a reason almost no dealer buys muntjac or CWD

A good few years ago I used to shoot on a bit of rented ground just outside stranraer, and a good adult roe deer carcass would average 14 to 15kg.
I did shoot one down near drummore once that weighed over 22kg, but that was very unusual?

I delivered a few roe to our 50 mile away game dealer and there was a price sheet beside the larder door which gave you the price per/k , roe were £1p/k over 9kg and any under that were 50p/kg , I did have 2 calves in the pickup which were weighed in just under the 9 ( normal weight for down here ) . Sorry but I couldn’t give them away for £4 so I just took them home and gave them away . I know there’s not much on them but when you’re managing deer to satisfy the manager it’s a case of if it’s in the plantation it has to go . I just wonder how long it will be before we start to see shooters leaving carcasses where they are shot because they are not worth the trouble of extracting and lardering or even we have to pay to get the carcass lifted .
I will add that I don’t blame the Game dealer I deal with for his price structure as he has to punt them on to the major game dealer . It’s very frustrating times we’re living in now .

45 years ago we were getting £1 per pound in east lothian scotland
Which is £2.20 a kilo now 👍, now I’m getting quoted (with all the reductions ) 68p/k which is approx 30plb 😞45 years on … disgraceful and sad and gives you no incentive . I’ve heard in the grapevine that HG have plans for a new massive handling facility , maybe there going to start a Go Fund Me Page .. 😁👌

There’s talk of something near the rest.

Not sure if HG or someone else

need to cull around 120’reds this year. At the current rate, if the estate owner permitted, I’d leave the carcasses in situ, and just strip off the haunches and backstraps, and a few chunks of shoulder for mince. Leave the rest for the sea eagles, which would also help lamb losses I suspect.

Well, this winter we will mainly be eating Muntjac… 50p/kg from the dealer! Fallow £1.40 “to start with” & Roe £2.40.

I would do exactly the same, I lay that price not worth dragging off the hill

What I find interesting is the disparity in Roe weights between those of Sol and Griff. Sol is from SW Scotland as was Griff last time I saw him. Neil it wouldn't have covered your diesel taking those to the Galloway smokehouse, hope you were going somewhere else as well.
