Views on challenging a clearance decision.

The best way forwards is to put in a request for an OPEN FAC and support that request with a 'Shooting CV' showing your progress through shooting sports, key dates, permissions, qualifications, experience, guided stalks, range attendances, etc. etc.
They can't argue with well presented evidence of experience and they will only be too pleased not to have to come out on site to 'clear' land.
Make sure you do this IN WRITING and 'TO BE SIGNED FOR' otherwise there is a good chance your email/letter/paperwork gets mislaid in the general chaos of back-logs that appears to be the norm in the Firearms Licensing Department of most Forces.

I don't know how long you have had your certificate, but TVP will open your FAC after three years. This is a historic throwback to when the FAC's lasted three years and they were done on renewal. I think they also have a policy to open up a certificate prior to three years should you be able to prove you are safe enough. Not sure how they do it though
Thanks for this, I’ve made a case based upon a shooting CV and drawing on Appendix 3 of the H.O. Firearms Law Guidance Dec 2021 around conditions and it’s requirement to demonstrate competence……so let’s see what happens. I’ll update the thread if it works…….or not!

Best course of action for you to take (in my opinion) we’ll done.

Good luck, I had a similar thing in Essex whereby the land was cleared for .22 but I challenged back to get it cleared for .308. The land in question was quite large with no footpaths and minimal residential areas around it. A road on one side and it had a decent enough incline.

When I spoke with the feo the concern they had wasn't me but people in the future if I were to stop shooting it, but they did agree that was their problem and shouldn't impact me. They cleared the land and then opened my cert
