What are the best quad sticks?

Make your own 4 sticks.

Yep, broke a leg on my homemade b&q garden canes on Monday. When I get time I will replace it, probably cost £3. Meanwhile I will use my spare set of b&q ones. If I had done the same with the fancy mcdancy expensive ones it might be a total right off, costing £££'s.

Last night seen an arton bipods. It was a one I hadn't heard of. I thought, mmm it looks good. So googled price. Fcuk me! 540 quid!!!!

As ever - whatever floats your boat as they say - for interest, photo below shows 2 mags (8 rounds) out of my Steyr Mannlicher 6.5x55SE with 120 gns Sierra Prohunter over moderate load of VihtN160 - shot off B&Q “quads” with a strap across the two front sticks to keep the rifle out of the vee (and thus allow lateral movement) at a tad over 130 yds this afternoon. Other photo shows the result of my attempt at trigger finger amputation half an hour later - blood thinners, cold hands and v sharp serrated blade not a good mix. Interesting 40 minute drive home though! Still - mustn’t grumble.

From my October last year post - simples!
“ Buy 4 B&Q green plastic coated 2m metal garden poles for about £12 total. Either drill and bolt them or just use bungee cord on the 4 axis points. Cut to length so that when open the upper axis is at shoulder level leaving about 4" spare on each, attach 1/2" webbing to front pair so that when open the webbing floats free of the sticks - this gives you the essential (windage) lateral adjustment, for vertical adjustment lean forward or back! I used them for years then bought an expensive set - guess what I am using now? Bonus is if you lose them it's only another £12 or so and half an hour gets you another set! Finally spoil yourself and do the same again but this time cut to length for sitting/kneeling position use. I have shot rabbits with .17 and roe with 6.5x55 beyond 200m and targets at 300m at my gun club. You will be delighted with their steadiness but make sure you practice technique before using them real time!
Good luck.”

I went from home brew hazel quad sticks to some Bushwear sticks a couple of months back as they were gifted to me. They work great in fairness.

Now I know I like them and have settled on the length Ive cut some holly lengths that are drying. When they are seasoned I shall cut them to length and replace the metal poles with something more natural and warmer on the paws

Oak dowel is also great to use for DIY quad sticks.

Someone have a guide about handmade a quad stick?

I used 20mm open grommets instead of o rings ( I am a sparky!) seemed to work well

Posting this late but didn't see these mentioned.
I have been using the Mjolner hunting Fenris II, I have used these from 75m to 450m with this year being three red deer down from 75m to 300m without drama.
Mine are the aluminium ones however I have been looking at the Blaser V2 more recently.
Cheers
John

Used these sticks culling feral goats out to 450m with the Rem700 in 300Win.

If you are making your own Quad Sticks instead of using B&Q poles try and find some tall fibreglass rods,12mm thick. They are used as electric fence posts for horses.Strong,Light and have a little bit of flex in them.

Having just read Foxyboy’s previous post detailing his B&Q deluxe set, it would appear that I may be in breach of a patent. Been using my own set for a few years, together with my shorter ‘seated’ set and they are rock solid. The addition of the webbing on the front fork makes panning left and right child’s play and for the flexible joints I use rubber Martingale stops held in place with some self amalgamating tape.
A further addition is a couple of foam handlebar grips.
