Hopefully off to France driven boar shooting this autumn with my brother. Taking my 30-06 and my .300 h&h looking for recommendations on what ammunition to load up? Weights and type of bullet? I'm assuming a bonded bullet 180gr +
In stock I have:
150gr & 180gr ttsx,
180g accubonds
180g & 220g Interlocks

Thoughts please

My preference would be the 220gr interlocks.

Go for heavier for calibre, but to be honest in Germany most common was 308 with 150gn bullets. I have shot a few with 173gn H-Mantles or ID Classic in 7x65r and these work well.

But do check and be prepared that most of Europe is now wanting lead free bullets.

Last Boar I shot was with a 150gn Fox out of 7x65gn. These bullets are tough but expand well and given a good wound channel and I would use these in 30-06.

But given stock you have the TTSX is probably the one to go for. I would probably errr on the lighter bullet weight to get expansion as the Barnes are a tough bullet.

Thanks for your thoughts guys, I will check re non toxic. Going to load a few options up and see how they group as a starting point for both rifles.

Back in my time in Germany quite a lot of Boar were shot using a '.308' bullet weighing 147gn, sometimes the nose was filed down just enough to expose the lead core, apparently not to help it spread but to help it tumble !!

I would go for the 150gr TTSX...they won't lack penetration and the faster speed over the 180gr will deliver greater terminal energy into the boar.

But I haven't shot driven boar, just a couple of youngsters and they were DRT with 150gr federal Powershok soft points out of a .308W.

I’ve been using 180gr Norma Oryx in my .30-06 for driven the last few years and they’re very good. If you need to be non-toxic then I would go 150 TTSX and try and get them motoring (within safe pressures). I shoot plenty of UK boar with 130gr TTSX and 150gr Fox with no drama
