What calibre ?

I’ve a 25-06, fantastic calibre for everything in the UK.

Also had the same dilemma. As a result I went 6.5CM for targets/ long range (nothing short range about 25-06 of course). Then I had an itch for light and fast, though 87gr vmax in 25-06 is exactly that. So I added 220 Swift. Of course I had a 7x57 anyway for the stags. But then one of Callum’s rifles came up in 6.5-284…….

Point is, it’s like a sickness of the mind. Though not of course a disclosable one from a point of view of medical fitness to apply for an FAC you understand. Theres always another rifle out there.

Deer rifle 6.5X55, Rem l/h 30.06 boar' no trips avail at moment, range fun to look forward to with it this season @ BISLEY, plenty of ammo' but saving for the range/targets costs?

BC.

More important than bigger, better, faster, flatter is how much one learns on the range or for longer range hunting. The 308 would be possibly the most sensible cartridge in a medium rifle such as a T3 CTR to cover hunting and target reasonably well. Ammo is cheap enough to get in good amount of practice. Most people can help you with a 308, can also judge if your grouping at a certain distance is good or bad. Bit more wind drift is a good thing as one can see a bad wind call better.
