I do not feel I get much for the money - I stay a member for the insurance (which would likely also be a complete ball ache if I ever needed to actually use it!)
Someone very close to me needed help from BASC about 12 years ago (3 of my family members were all members), I attended the calls/meetings and their dismissive unhelpful manner ensured I will never be a member, their more recent antics relating to lead have just cemented that view point.
I am an SGA member and I have contacted them about getting representation for themselves on here (by far the largest forum platform for shooting in the U.K.) and they seem to have no interest - that unfortunately speaks volumes about how interested they likely are in the membership, which is a shame as I believe the SGA do a lot of good and when I read their press releases and information they seem to have a lot of good points.
I am a member of the STS - although thatās more just for the target shooting side - again, I see the generic publications but have yet to see anything other than that.
I try to fill in all the consultations and opinion polls and have contacted my MP on a few occasions so feel I do put in effort and donāt just sit back and let everyone else take the task on before the usual comments of āhave you ever bothered doing anythingāā¦.
I have never seen a fieldsports demonstration nearby so have not attended any - they are always in London it seems and the SNP up here and the morons that follow them are no friend to shooting so I doubt to see much up here.
Regards,
Gixer
To be fair to the SGA as far as i know they have very few full time or employed staff in general.
Just a few office staff.
Even the chairman is still a FT keeper.
I think most of the other people involved and who attend holyrood meetings etc are also FT keepers or stalkers.
I dunno if there paid for their time or voluntry, but to even make the time and effort on top off a busy day job is quite an achievemnet in itself.
I imagine they simply wouldnae have time to monitor and reply to a forum as well as everything else they do.
I'd far rather they spend their valuable time on petioning holyrood etc ( for all the good it does) than spending time on this site.
I dunno much about SACS but think there pretty much a 1 man band ran from a spare bedroom.
Nothing wrong with that.
Better that than wasting money.
I think Ngo and CA will employ a few more staff but not that many.
Really basc is many many times larger than anything else out there.
No 1 else has FT regional offices with staff as well as the other staff and lavish offices they have.
They will really be the only org with 'jobs for the boys"
Which is why it is ideally positioned to really fight for shooting.
Just a shame they are so completely inept at it.
They just look like they have not got a clue wot there doing most of the time.
Not going to go on an anti basc rant.
But just look at this lead shot fiasco.
Completely ignore ur feelings or who is right or wrong.
Look how they went about it.
Went against there long term stance no new science no change, pretty much over night.
With no warning or consultation with anyone.
Mqnaged to talk a few more orgs in to counter signing it.
When it hit the fan, which was completely obvious it would, hell a blind man could of seen it coming.
They lied they had consulted with cartridge makers and GTA.
The Gta and cartridge makers then released a public statement sayibg no warning or consultation.
Then some of the other orgs tried to back track out of it as they thought the GTA were behind it.
Handled absolutely terrible from start to finish and that was a massive decision for them.
Esp at the time not long after the john swift/LGA debacle
Really the time u double check everythibg cross ur ts and dot ur is.
If they handled something so important so badly wot arw they doung with every day stuff?
That was the final straw for me, not entirely the direction they went but to handle it so so badly is unforgivable
In fairness to basc a few years previously they stood on their own about a change to the Game Farming code.
Every other org were calling basc for everything and basc stood its ground, and in my opinion were correct.
From memory it was something to do with raised laying crate sizes and enriching them ( sticking a few branches and astro turf in them)
So i will give credit were credit is due.
Just fairly rare nowadays.
Althou i have had a quite few dealings with the basc scottish office over the many years i was a member and they were always excellent too.
Just a shame head office wasnae the same.
