What do you feed your dog

My dachshund is insured via kennel club at £13 a month, I'd recommend taking insurance out. A single visit alone may come close to a four figure.

I feed mine on a new ish brand called canagan using the game variety. 6kg is £32 expensive but it lasts her around 3 months. We use that due to it containing no serials

I have a GWP Dog "big muvva" and 2 spaniels, feed superdog chicken and rice fed dry £18 quid a bag last about 2 weeks, every other day I give 1llb of tripe to GWP and 1/2llb each to springers, during working season I up the tripe to daily, once a week a raw bone to gnaw on.. they all do well on it and only crap a couple of times a day,coats great and there healthy, one thing i make sure of is a great big bowl of fresh water every day with a squirt of lemon juice, which I swear is why the pee stays straw coloured not dark yellow and doesnt stink, on average cost around £50 a mth, Oh forgot to mention, Im insured through farmers union, 24 quid a mth for all and I'm clear they know there working dogs, read the fine print and leave tesco's alone.

I have four dogs we feed gusto to all of them £11 a bag. So £22 a fortnight for the four dogs so not that expensive .1 ess 1 lab 2x German shepherds

Feed all my three on half tripe half "simply" good solid working dog food, GWP he's built like a brick wc and a cracking coat and skin

fed processed food (sack) for many years to many dogs that we have had pets and working breeds and running dogs .but always seem that 1 dog could not get on with 1 sort and then changed food only for them problem to change dogs , either hyper ,skin complaints, sh~ts, gagging when eating ect ect. after a chat with the owners breeder of our vizsla they feed there dogs raw , asked them a lot while I was there and then trawled the net for more info.
now I feed all 3 dogs on raw the sprocker, viz and the old gsd eat rabbit fur on, tripe, venison ,chicken, lamb and offal ect not found a meat they cant eat, mixed with veg fish eggs pasta fruit there is so much to choose from to change it around from day to day. as for supply ask around fish shop, butchers, local market, on-line. its as cheap as you make it. I shoot my own meat catch my own fish, buy 18kg of chicken necks £18 and tripe 50p a lb .cost me about a £1 a day to feed all 3 of them.
it took a while to sort out how much each dog needs to maintain a good working weight as the is no **** in there diet to bulk it out , but can say my dogs have never looked so well loads of energy and gr8 coats, skin and teeth. .bit of work and time but well worth it .search" barf diet" on-line

1 cocker spaniel on Burns chicken and rice. He also gets lamb hearts. Skinned and gutted rabbits, chicken wings and beef trim! He also gets a drop of lager on a Saturday night! He loves it! Insured with pdsa. No quibble on a £580 bill earlier this year.

Have 4 labs 3 are on skinners musli mix,and the pup is on crunchy, £17.00 a bag,last about 2 weeks,pups food last about a month.

Have 3 ( 1 ess, 1 lab and a gsp) all fed on Skinner Duck and Rice £19.99 per sack, its a great food really suits the three of them, did have gsp on Beta but she was like tigger on it.

All 3 insured by Tesco, £38 per month with life cover, did have them covered by KC, GSP went upto £64 per month alone.. robbing bar stewards.

+1 Chudleys original or working crunch £13 a bag cheaper if buy a pallet I have 3 labs & terrier A1 on it & poop easy to pick up, they also get red meat once a week & all bones & waste from carcasses.

I breed and train working dogs from my kennels in the Scottish borders, and I pick up on several large estates, my dogs are started on Chudleys puppy £15/17 for a 10kg bag and then onto Chudleys working crunch £15/16 for a 15kg bag and all do great on it.

As for insurance forget pet plan you can get the same cover from Marks & Spencers for £10 per month cheaper, always get a lifetime policy and this insures the dog year after year even if you have a claim where annual policy may not cover your dog the following year after a claim and then you have to change insurance companies with a pre existing condition and they will either not insure your dog or charge you a fortune.

Dr Johns Gold, £11.99 for 15kg bag from MVF, lasts approx. a month with leftovers from the table plus venison treats/scraps.
As for insurance I think its a balance between the number of dogs you have and premium, with one dog I reckon you pay out
in premium what you are likely to spend in vets bills, pay either way!

I have tried countless brands and types of dog food, I have four labs, a cocker spaniel and a terrier, I'm a gamekeeper so my dogs work extremely and need food with a high protein content, I like Skinners foods but one of my labs has a sensitive stomach and it didn't seem to agree with any of the Skinners range so I tried Dr John's Platinum and rate it highly, its 25% protein, 15% oils & fats.

My GSP has been on Chudleys, Puppy first then Junior and now Working Mix, looking good on it, £14 for 15kg's, lasts about a month so good value too.

I feed chudleys working crunch and its a good dry food mate. I mix other stuff in with it, sardines twice a Week, pasta, cooked mince etc, although the dogs would do fine on it on its own with half a tin of tinned meat mixed in, for one dog you'll be able to feed it a good diet for cheap enough, a bag will last you longer than a week and if you want extras its cheap enough.

I have been feeding Chudleys Working Crunch past few years, feed it all year round and amount fed depends on time of year. Feeding 2 collies 2 springers and a GSD. The collies are working every day and they are all thriving on it good condition/coats etc. Get raw eggs and raw meat mixed in twice a week. Only have to buy the Chudleys so cost of feed approx £20/week. Cheers

I feed mine (cockers and labs) on Skinners field and trial maintenance during the summer and then their field and trial crunchy during the shooting season. I don't insure any of them, for four dogs it would be far to expensive. Also make sure you read the small print of any insurance plan because many do not include working dogs and those that do will not insure them if they are used professionally (eg. Gamekeepers dogs)
