I have a Hawke Airmax 3-12x50 and it works perfectly on my HMR. It's a very similar model to the sidewinder mentioned above. You don't want something too big and heavy on the HMR as it defeats the purpose .. however you do want something of a decent quality and magnification to achieve the accuracy and range the HMR is capable of (>200yards) so a mid range optic from a decent brand is worthwhile but a high mag high end scope (24x Swarovski) just isn't necessary.
I just have one of those Hawke hmr specific scopes on mine , they now do an improved version with side parallax and they work great with a pard , think mine cost £150 and think the newer ones about £250
