What wouldn’t you shoot?

For me it's quicker to say what I do shoot.
Rats, (every one I can)
magpies,(every one I can)
most corvids. (not protected species),
Adult rabbits ( just enough for the pot),
wood pigeon ( up to a dozen at a time for the pot),
Grey squirrels (every one I can)
And finally about 3 roe a year solely for my consumption.
Everything I leave alone as survival is a struggle for a lot of species.
There is a bit of remorse for some kills and none for others.
No youngsters other than magpies and rats.

I’m not keen on dealing with fox cubs, but it’s a necessary evil, especially when they’ll be just the right size & disposition to cause mayhem and misery when the pheasants go to wood.

Aside from that, I don’t shoot hares, and I’m pretty sure I couldn’t bring myself to shoot an elephant or big cat (unless it was necessary to preserve my own life).

Only quarry species that springs to mind are wild grey partridge, but only because there is hardly a shootable surplus where I shoot. If I was fortunate to shoot in a place with decent numbers they would be on my list.

and Goats, they just look too much like farm stock.

Most of my shooting is pest related. I am not into trophy animals but understand why many are.

If its an issue and legal I will consider.

My particular favourites are hares but I have taken plenty on permissions if the land owner requires.

I find it hard to swallow having to reduce hare numbers because the land owner is fed up of poachers and coursing. I'd rather eat the lurcher than shoot the hares.

Some species need revision and personally - badgers fall into this field even though I love the little buggers. Again - another species that has no controls because of baiters. Bovine TB is a huge drain and the chain needs to be broken in some areas with the remainers being vaccinated.

Its individual decision if its legal quarry.

There isnt necessarily a right or wrong answer here.
