whats out there????

Brithunter, I'm not wanting to cause controversy, but you're posting as though you're shooting again. Have I missed something?

Shot another buck this morning with the .243 and dreaded "v max " i really will have to stop using them :doh:not !
i did film it but when i downloaded it was very dark and you can only just make him out.

The buck was well aware i was there and alert, he never gave me chance to neck him so i put one through the ribs.
He went down like a sack of spuds and dropped right on the spot without a kick or flinch, the bullet dumped all its energy in him and never exited.
When i gralloched him i could see there was going to be some damage to the far shoulder, how much i dont know yet as i dropped him off for a mate.

I dont think i will ever stop using these heads for roe on my own ground, i have rarely even had one take a couple of steps plus its a superb fox round .

I dont think i would use them on an invite unless i was taking the carcass home, but for an effective ultra fast humane killing round i dont think you can beat them thats if you can put up with possible damage to ribs or shoulder.
Normally though i would go for the neck if close enough , and found this is where the v max is certainly at its best . DF

Well yes and no to shooting. You see there are ways without having access to ones own rifles. I did pick up a Vintage Haenel 303 air rifle as a project. Took 3/4 grown garden raiding wabbit in the late afternoon yesterday that's one way.

Looks like there may be some serious hunting later this year trying to work out details now with friends that's another way.

No because we are still awaiting responses and answers to questions about the events of last year  .

Now DF whilst I cannot deny it worked after all I am not a politician or civil servant, I am wary of bullets designed to fragment. This stems from my first ever deer which happened to be a Sussex Roe Doe shot with a .308. Being new to stalking and reading hearing of blood shot meat and not wanting my carcase to be so I developed a load for the .308 using a Sierra 180 Grn Pro Hunter using a mid range load of Reloader 15. That bullet hit a rib going in and blew up/came apart. Some of it took out three ribs on exit and cleaning out and later butchering at home I picked out jacket fragments and lead core fragments from the tender loins and rib cage.

Hence for years I would not use Sierra bullets if at all possible and used Speer, Nosler and Hornady whenever possible. Now the 180 Grn pro Hunter is a bullet supposedly designed and manufactured for much larger beasts such as Moose and American Elk yet blew up on a 35lb Roe Doe at about 90 yards. I prefer bullets that perform like this:-

Hornady 7mm BTSP recovered from a 9 point Whitetail Buck in 2003. BSA CF2 delivery system seen in the background.

As I say I am wary of using bullets designed to fragment.
