Where is it safe to shoot a 222 but not a 243?????

Why not? Pretty arbitrary isn't it?

As referenced in my Post No. 15 both my 243 and the 6.5 are expressly conditioned for fox. We have separate conditions for use of the same rifles on deer and getting back to the original topic we're both in Cheshire.

I Happily use my 222 for fox in cheshire my post was about the odd situation that arises when 243 is refused and 22 centrefire is approved I know cheshire approve some for one thing and not others thats they way it works out.
My direct experienceis one where several mates have had no truble with 243 and others have been made to buy another rifle such as myself i am not complainig I am commenting on the situation which leads to the question.

I have always been under the impression that conditions on FAC are for the purpose of limiting the number of firearms in use... It makes no sense whatsoever to limit the use of a particular calibre of rifle to one species when UK law permits it's use for other species.

If only BASC would stop fannying around with the lead shot debate :stir: .... and concentrate on the more important things.

Cheshire have to be the worse FLD out there..i had George wallace fighting my case but still they would not see sense even a safety aspect of me having to take 2 rifles out one for fox one for rabbit/other vermin did not move them...what diff a 17rem vmax and 223 vmax is on vermin is not much but both kill instantly.

Cheshire only allow 17rem as a CF cal for both vermin/fox vermin being anything other than fox.

I have been shooting since a kid with military small arms quals and still to this day use firearms at work...i see it if your safe with one CF cal then a step up is no different with exp...and what ever cal you shoot vermin/game if that particular cal can do the job then why restrict when other counties allow it ??

calibre is not relevent, we should be saying backstop backstop backstop , if you can shoot a 222 safely you can shoot a 308 safely as no backstop no shot !!!!!! do not take any rubbish off these flo, flm , you just got to know how to deal with them.
and if needs be make a offical complaint it works a treat !!!!

It's amazing how both calibres can fire the same weight of bullet (70gr) and one be considered 'unsafe'. I'd get SACS to better them...
