In answer to your question I would trust any of the known names.
I have an ancient Redding no1, the Lee, and a Lyman pro 500. All are consistent with each other - the Lee is a faff to use though (and the 100 gn limit means I cannot weigh most of my bullets with it). The Lyman is not a well finished product by comparison with the Redding, in fact I would venture to say that it is cruder and less well made than the Lee, although it is easier to use. But, it is consistent.
The Redding is the best I have used in terms of being a scale, the markings are so well etched that you really know how many 10s of a grain away from zero that you are, which is great albeit unnecessarily exacting for the type of reloading that I do.
The Lyman, RCBS, Hornady and Redding will all work. The Lyman 1000 is merely the 500 with an optional 500 grain compensating weight. I'm sure this works in theory, but strikes me as a copout!
Get whichever of them that you can find for a good price. The Lyman pro 500 get moved on fairly regularly due, I suspect, to people's disgust at the "cheap" feel of it (disgust shared by me when I got mine I must admit), but it works just as well as the nicer ones from RCBS and Hornady.
But, if you have to save up anyway, get the Redding:

Merely my 2p'wth, but in my experience it is a better product than the other offerings in its class.
