Why are Fac Renewals taking so long ?

Put in December visited 8th February received today 2nd of March so not too bad.
But no variations for 6 months, what's wrong with Barret lite .50 anyway 🤔🤣

im not with cumbria, mine went in in nov, still no ticket, beds harts and cambs are an absolute joke, one lady has helped as much as she can but the bosses should be sacked, next step tell the police and crime commisione but i guess his role is pointless too

Does work from home have anything to do with this? Over here in Bavaria the people that do mine have instigated an appointment visiting requirement whereas we used to just rock up and wait outside to get stuff done.

I am reliable informed that the recent issues Cumbria Police firearm licencing team have been experiencing, have been addressed and we need to allow time for this to work through the system and be implemented.
I have heard the same, I hope it is true. My extended temporary certificates run out in June and I’m hoping to have my new tickets by then.

Adverts recently for staff in a support role (admin) at c.£25k & FEO at c.£32k.

Given the responsibility that goes with both roles, got to ask why would anyone want to do either job as their main source of income?

Responsibility ? They collate the facts as known and the assistant chief constable has the ultimate responsibility . Think of construction bosses and those writing risk assessments in many lines of work .
Flexible hours etc , good job for many

Meaning absolutely no disrespect to the admin staff, they don't really have any more responsibility than anyone else working in a similar role in any industry. They're inputting data, updating records, etc, not making decisions. The pay is on par with similar jobs elsewhere.

The FEO has more responsibility, but even then the decision to grant/vary/renew/refuse/revoke a certificate is coming from above their pay-grade. They are responsible for gathering facts and might express an opinion on an application, but they aren't the one signing the certificate.

What ever the government department, most of the staff at the sharp end have taken such a tongue lashing, bullying, second guessing etc etc over the last few years, that pretty much no one will now take a decision on anything. Everything has to be referred upstairs.

And upstairs has had the same so they refer it to the ministry.

And nobody in the ministry will take a decision so it lands on the desk of the minister, who is only in post for a few days, so it is referred to the Prime Minister.

And the Prime Minister won’t take a decision cos it might upset some in the party or list of donors.

So no decision is taken.

I have been waiting 14 months for a renewal, I’ve just had my temporary certificates extended by another 6 months. Has anybody heard that tickets are issued from date of application, not the date you receive them? A friend was saying this is not legal and BASC are getting involved.
Your ticket will run from the expiry of the old one, I had this out with my feo as I think it should run from the date of issue, he said it would take an act of parliament to change it

Can anyone shed some light on why renewals are taking so long ? I understand that the Police are looking at people’s suitability since the Plymouth tragedy , but how can it take months longer than it previously did .
because uk police are inept
Don’t tar them all with the same brush, Wilts did mine in 8 weeks before Christmas, variations are under a week.

Just goes to show, run correctly with the right people it can run efficiently and on time.

My renewal was done from date of issue, not expiry, took 12 months to renew South wales

My renewal came through within a week of the expiry of the old certificate. No problem at all. Devon and Cornwall.

Anyone know what this actually means? - by back dating so they mean that they’re putting the issue date down as in the last or that they’re setting the 5 year life to immediately follow the previous expired FAC?

I have a s28b letter extending my previous FAC, which expired on 7 April for 8 weeks. Does this mean that my new certificate has to run from the end of the 8 week extension? - ie that next time around instead of it ending at the beginning of April 2029 it’ll end at the beginning of June 2029?

Our (very helpful) FEO was a copper for 30 years with most of that in armed response. So I suppose it's £32k and a full police pension. He said "I spent 30 years dealing with very nasty people, I now deal with generally very nice people and just have to weed out the odd wrong 'un......."!

This is exactly how an FEO I know describes it - he used to be armed response too. It’s a pension ‘top up’ for those who’ve retired from the job.

You say that but in the HO guide it actually refers to the FEO clearing land so they’re the one on the ground doing the RA & if it goes Pete Tong you can guarantee the chiefs will have their Teflon overcoat on & say they based their decision on what the FEO told them were the facts.

I work in a process lead environment & have to carry out pretty much a continual DRA throughout my entire working day. I am under no illusion that if things go wrong the first place my boss will look is at my DRA to see if they can blame me for getting it wrong! They’ll do anything they can to shift the blame - I’m currently helping a colleague who is being told that it’s their fault they ended up in A&E after a work injury because they failed to follow process despite them doing exactly as they’d been trained to do!
