Wide brimmed waterproof hat - recommendation.

Tilley hat. As previously said if you wear it out replaced FOC and they send your old one back. Old one lives in my truck newer one is for best. Worn them for 30+ years. Lace prevents them coming off in high winds. Also give excellent sun protection. Compartment in top good to keep a £20 note in case of emergency. Washable and restretch whilst damp. You can use water repellent treatment if you wish but rarely necessary.

Tilley are great (until you loose it!)

even though I had my name written inside the pocket in top, it has never come back since loosing it while doing a conservation project..... however it may have ended up under spoil from the wetlands we were creating rather than in a contractors car!

(their warrantee doesn't cover that, although I believe they would give a discount towards a replacment in the first couple of years after buying it)

"Insured against loss, guaranteed for life" is what it says on the label. I know a few people who've had lost hats replaced.
(Although I think Tilley have tightened up on their terms in recent years, to prevent people taking the pi$$).

Incidentally, when I replaced mine under warranty recently, I was supposed to choose a replacement off the UK stock list, but the one I wanted wasn't available. The nice folk at TilleyUK ordered one in from Canada for me.
